Letter from Sheriff Officer

Previously i sought advice from the forum regarding a ticket i received.
To state the situation briefly, I got a PCN in April. I knew nothing about this as there was no ticket on my windscreen on the date the contrevention happened. I did park at the date and time they stated and i did not pay as i never realised it was pay & display at that precise time.
The PCN stated i had to pay £30.
I wrote to the council and told them i did not recieve a ticket notifying me of the charge. In the letter i asked them to confirm and prove that i actually recieved a PCN.
I heard nothing whatsoever from them until Friday, when i received a letter from the sheriff officers that i now must pay £168.10.
This breaks down as
Principal sum - £90.00
Expenses of charge - £78.10.

I am now worried about this as i did intend to pay the original £30 if they could provide evidence that i actually got a PCN.
I don't know what happened to the PCN that was supposed to be on my windscreen but the car park in question often has some kids knocking around and there is always reports of vehicle damage etc.

Could someone give me some advice on what to do?
Thank you.

Did you? Your only other post appears to be in regards to auto renewal of home insurance.

This is a council ticket, so the NEWBIES sticky isn't the place for help.

As we tend to major on private parking tickets here, PePiPoo will be your best bet for council tickets. Here's your link:

Have a read through some of the other threads there before you post your own to get the hang of what information they need from you in your opening post - but as a minimum you will need photos/scans of all correspondence you've received from the council (both sides, if appropriate).

PePiPoo has an excellent success record in dealing with council tickets.

Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
