Please feel free to move his to gaming if more relevant there. My son wants to set up his own server so that he and a few of his friends can play in peace. He wants to use yogscast (?), and we understand he would need to be looking for about 2/3 gb ram. Looking for recommendations really for any companies that provide server rental at a reasonable price. Looking myself I have found nitrous networks at £10pm, 1 &1.co.uk £4.99 pm but not sure this is the right thing or can it be done for free on multicraft?
Any help gratefully received as I don't really understand a word he's on about!

I dont know much on this, I must admit. But one thing you will need to know, is if the server needs to be on for 24/7 or only when your son wants to run it
If it is the latter, then he will be able to just do it from his computer. There will be many guides around for it. One alternative if you have an always on internet connection is to buy him a Raspberry Pi mini computer (costs around £30) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Raspberry-Pi-Desktop-700MHz-Processor/dp/B00LPESRUK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412782982&sr=8-1&keywords=pi
There are step by step guides for these to set them up as a dedicated Minecraft Server, and as long as it is connected to the internet, it will always be running

And on a side educational note, the Raspberry Pi's are used in a lot of schools as they are perfect to get kids learning to program computers, make their own games etc. http://www.raspberrypi.org/There are 10 kinds of people that understand binary
