PPi help

Hi guys, I've been reading the forum with interest and decided it best that I join.
Ok, so my dilemma.
I rung three of my previous credit card companies today to investigate PPI, two of them said I had it. Barclay Card and Abbey (now Santander)
My confusion is I cannot remember how I applied for the Barclay Card. But let me delve a little deeper into my personal situation, back then 2003 I was told by pretty much everyone in the banking sector that I should take PPI in case I was not able to pay my bills due to being off sick, fast forward a few years and numerous lenders re-borrowing trying to pay off my debts suddenly everything came too much and I was signed off work with depression and anxiety, a very dark place and time, at the time I rung my biggest lender (halifax) to have the payments made or whatever whilst I was off, this never happened and I fell into a deeper hole. So I cancelled the PPI on all of them including this Barclay card and fast forward 2 years and I eventually went bankrupt. I'm not saying its the banks fault but they massively contributed by not helping and telling me the best option was to borrow more to pay off everything else which I now see 5 -7 years later as a massive error. Back to the Barclay card I was paying PPI for 4 years, cannot remember how I got the card or how I applied for it or whether PPI was pre-ticked or not, I had so many medications from 2007 on that its just a blur, I'd like to claim but I don't want to in case they tell me it was my own fault or that it wasn't pre-ticked (if done online etc) I have successfully pursued Halifax because in my opinion they fell foul and didn't explain properly what the PPI was or supposed to do or what it would not cover.
Thankfully I have turnt a massive corner and my finances are on the straight and narrow, it has affected my chances of getting a mortgage but hopefully in a few years I can get to where I want to be.
Thank you for taking the time to read and hope someone can help with my dilemma :beer:

If PPI was applied for and paid prior to your bankruptcy, then in the event of a successful claim for misselling any refund would not be paid to you but to the Official Receiver for distribution to your creditors.
In these circumstances you have nothing personally to gain from a complaint, whether boxes were pre ticked or not. Just forget about it and get on with your life now that you are back on an even keel.0 -
As post #2, bankrupts cannot benefit personally from PPI complaints. Even if you were to be successful, any redress would be seized by the Official Receiver for redistribution to your former creditors.unknownsilver wrote: »fast forward 2 years and I eventually went bankrupt.
Bankruptcy is meant to draw a line behind your past financial mismanagement and your creditors have to accept that they can no longer chase you for money you still owe them. However, it also works in reverse and so you cannot chase them for redress of money you effectively never paid.
You say you have "successfully pursued Halifax", but you can expect the Official Receiver to want this money back shortly if you receive it at all.
There is a Bankruptcy Board on this forum and there is a long thread explaining this in far more detail at the link below;

Time to forget PPI and anything else you may have been mis-sold prior to your bankruptcy and to get on with the rest of your life..:)0
