Isn't this just entirely shocking. It saddens me to no end knowing there are people within our society who are prepared to be so cruel to animals. The memsahib and I have watched all these cases on the news with incredible sadness. I'm glad the man in this story is being sent to jail. I just wish it was for longer.
Will it deter others? Somehow I doubt it.

I generally avoid the news due to stories like this, however this stood out as an act of pure evil against a beauiful Collie dog that was as much apart of this family as any human.
Unfotunately 10 months is not a deterrent to others and it is not a punishment worthy of this crime, I honestly thought two years minimum would have been more apt.
A very sad story overall.0 -
Cotta I know what you mean about stories like this being too much to bear. We don't watch documentaries which show animal cruelty because we can't take it either. There's no need for any human being to be cruel to an animal in this way and sometimes I wish the law would allow for the police to give a criminal like this a good hiding as well as a jail sentence.0

Animal cruelty is a huge issue here in NI and I think the USPCA do a wonderful job of tracking down criminals who abuse them but I guess there just aren't enough USPCA staff.
I've seen their man on TV and he really cares. He's brought loads of prosecutions too.
Did you know they still have to investigate a massive number of c*ck fights?0 -
Very very cruel indeed, and there are also barbaric things happening to unborn human babies on a daily basis in the form of abortion...just because it's legal doesn't mean it's right.0

What this thread is about is animal cruelty however and it's illegal. I'm sure we all have opinions on abortion but perhaps a thread about that would illicit more considered replies - don't you think?
This year alone the USPCA have investigated:
C*ck fighting.
Badger baiting.
Animal fighting using stolen pet cats as bait.
So sad to think that these barbaric acts are still taking place in Northern Ireland in the 21st century.
A search for USPCA on the BBC NI web page brings up dozens of articles because it's not just pets but also farm animals which get abused.0 -
Social Media report of incident yesterday -
It is with great sadness that we bring the news of Kenya's untimely death. In a heinous act of cruelty Kenya was shot in cold blood and without reason at close range with a small caliber rifle near our business at the Six Road Ends. She passed away shortly after while in the superb care of Vets 4 Pets in Bangor. There was nothing that could be done due to the extent of her injuries. We know Kenya was greatly loved by all of our customers as she greeted them with tail wagging each and every one on a daily basis. The PSNI are investigating the crime but for legal reasons we cannot release any further details. Kenya will undergo a full post mortem by the State Pathologist to retrieve further details surrounding her death. She had a wonderful life and was a treasured friend to me through both good times and bad, she never failed to make me smile when the chips where down. Her memory will live on in my heart where she will always have a place. So long my friend, you will be sorely missed. See More

OP, I think the judge has done all he can in regards to the sentences he passed down. From the reports I have read, people have been incredibly impressed with how he handled the whole thing.0

I don't care what anyone thinks, if he did that to my dog, I would either kill him (and it wouldn't be quickly) or cut so many bits off him that he would have regretted being left alive.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0
