PPI Claims Advisory Group

Can anyone help with this. I signed up to CAG 2 years ago (I had forgotten) They were pursuing the Halifax for me. I received a phone call from them this morning 2 years later informing me that I owe them £600+(39%) from a payment I had some time ago directly from the Halifax of £1621. At the time as I didn't hear from CAG nor since, I presumed they had received their fee and I was sent the residue. The CAG claim they have been working on this for 2 years and now the Halifax say they have paid out and that I should have informed CAG that I received payment. I emphasise that this work they say they have done on my behalf was not known to me for 2 years.:(
Do I have any way of reducing this payment to CAG

All a CMC does is send your complaint to the bank. it does no more after that. It sits back until the bank tells them or you tell them. However, you did agree to it and did agree to tell them when you got the money. So, you cant argue with that.

Doesnt matter. You employed them to put a stamp on the envelope and you agreed to pay them for doing it. The fact they do diddley squat is irrelevant.

No. They have a contract you signed agreeing to pay them. You havent. Your presumption wouldnt stack up either as Halifax provide you with a breakdown of the redress payment and it didnt mention their fee. So, whilst I hate CMCs, they have the upper hand on this you.

  • Thought there wouldn't be any re-dress but obviously I was hoping. Thank you

One last thing to note is though it took them two years to present their bill, the redress from the Bank did not take anywhere near that long as you say you received it "some time ago".

If you or the Bank had informed the CMC at the time of your successful complaint, you certainly would not have waited two years for their bill.

In addition, it's really not a valid reason to say that you "forgot" that you signed a contract to pay these people a proportion of any redress.
