I'm wondering if anyone can give a bit of advice.
I have been sent a letter by DWP to recover money from a loan I apparently had in 2010.
This was when I was on Job Seeker after losing my job in Oct 09.
I am unaware of this loan and do not remember taking it out, I came off benefits in June 2011 and was sent a letter informing me of when my benefits would be stopped but was never told of any loan outstanding.
I called DWP on Saturday and asked them to provide me with proof of the loan, I have been advised that you have to accept the loan so there should be some proof on my behalf if I took out the loan.
All I have been sent in paper cut in half with their computer records.
I am also confused as to why the woman I spoke to, name has been black pen marked out.
The amount is £188.79, this was for a bed and mattress.
I remember asking for help from them when I moved into my own flat after my mum had passed away but I remember them declining me, and I contacted them because I was told they would help with moving cost due to my circumstances.
I cannot afford to pay this money, I really do not remember having a loan from them and find it mad that after 4 years they are now chasing me. The lady from DWP told me the paper work had only just come through to them?
I have checked my bank and no payment from DWP to that amount or around the dates is there.
Very confusing and any advice would be a great.
Thanks
