Hi ,
Hoping someone on here will be mother knowledagle than me.
In April this year I bought my daughter a bed from argos, I paid via PayPal and the money was debited from my card. I received the bed 3 days later.
In early September I received a letter from toysrus stating I hadn't paid for the bed and they were instructing a debt collection agency to collect the monies.
I have contacts PayPal who state the money was not claimed by argos and therefor refunded back in July.? I received no emails about it and didn't notice at all.
I'm not in a position to pay the whole amount and have tried to negotiate with argos but they are adamant that they will just pass to a debt collector. What can I do?
Any help appreciated

Please clarify the above.
After that, I suggest you need to square up with the bed provider as soon as possible.
You've had a product from them and need to pay for it. Did you not notice the money getting credited back to your account?Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....0 -

It was argos, sorry.
No as I said I didn't notice. I'm not disputing I need to pay for it. But at the minute I'm not in a position to do so outright. I suppose I shall have to wait for debt agency to get in touch and arrange a payment plan.
Thanks0 -

Have you checked your bank statements to see if you ever actually were refunded?
If they get a CCJ against you, make sure you pay it off in full straight away or you'll ruin your credit rating for 6 years.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.
ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.0 -

Morning,
Be pro-active about it and approach the debt collection agency.
In the meantime check your paypal account and bank statements to ensure they have actually refunded the money as they claim.
Or as opposed to using the DCA, do you have any family members that can help until yopu can repay them?Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....0 -
Thanks for advice, I contacted them and they have investigated and found they actually refunded the payment in error. They gave me £75 off the price and I have managed to pay it off now. Phew, didn't really want to have to deal with debt collectors0

If it was me, I would ask Argos to confirm it in writing so you have
some hard copy evidence just in case anyone does come knocking from debt collection.0 -

I got the manager I spoke with to put in all in writing via an email and she did so very quickly I have to say. They were apologetic with regards to the threatening letters especially when this was their error0 -
Check the money actually hit your account.
Do not take a word they say as gospel and also make sure you were dealing with who they said they were.
Sounds rather fishy using E-mails.I do Contracts, all day every day.0
