RHI monthly amount question
Options
Hi,
I will be applying online at end of week for RHI for my BioMass boiler.
I am having my first EPC carried out the day before (mine is a new self build house).
The way I read all the documents online and the OFGEM website, the higher the Energy use in kWh/m2per year is stated on the EPC, the higher my monthly payment.
Have I got this right?

RHI is based on the number of kwh specified in the EPC (not the kwh/m2) - they changed the EPC a year or so ago.
You also need an MCS certificate for the boiler installation and possibly a GDA (although I'm not sure if that's necessary for a self build). All three certificate numbers have to be input into the application.
The RHI is paid quarterly, not monthly and you should get your first payment about 3 months after your application is accepted. I'm due my second payment next week as I applied and was accepted in April this year when the RHI started.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1 -
Thanks for reply matelodave,
I know about MCS thanks. As it's a new build - no green deal, I need to provide land registry details as well as insurance details in place for the build (The same as I did for the RHPP)
I'm looking at an EPC done last year for the house we sold, and I can only see energy usage in "kWh/m2per year" format. Has it changed, or have I missed something further down the sheet (I have looked),

By The way matelodave, are you ex RN?0
-
matelodave,
I just reread your reply properly, where you tell me EPC was changed a year or so ago.
But just to confirm, the higher that kWh value is the higher the quarterly payment?0 -
No I'm not RN - I used to sail a lot though and I liked the handle.
I've got two EPCs for my place one a few years old and one that I got to claim RHI for my Air Source Heatpump earlier this year and it's nigh on impossible to compare the two - I'm sure if you look on an EPC website it will give you an example of what the latest one looks like. There is no kwh/m2 on it and the you can't do a conversion either - they've obviously got new software and do different calculations to get different conclusions
My RHI payment is based on the sum of my calculated heating demand plus hot water annual kwh estimates as shown on the EPC (page 4) offset by the efficiency of my heatpump (COP=2.5)
My demand according to the EPC is 12565kwh for heating and 2759kwh for hot water making a total of 15324kwh/year. Taking into account the HP efficiency factor or 2.5 then I get paid on 9194.4kwh x £0.073 (the rate for an ASHP) to get a total of £671.20 = £167.80 per quarter which is what I get.
I assume that if my house was better insulated then my heating demand would be lower so I'd get less. It's not related to the ASHP output or anything else that I can see.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Had my RHI confirmed today for Biomass & Solar.
Unless I missed something though, those like me who had the RHPP are losing out. I lose about £450.
No point arguing with OFGEM, as that's the way the system works it.0 -
No you aren't losing out as you've already had some money from them in the form of the RHPP.
My RHI was based on my energy requirements because I paid for my heat-pump out of my own pocket - there were no grants or other assistance available at the time.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Yes I can see that, and accept it too.
But If I hadn't had the RHPP, I could have applied in April, instead of waiting until last week, that's about 6 months worth of payments lost.
That isn't taken into account by OFGEM.
But I may have missed something.0 -
Don't you get the same number of payments or have they knocked some off?Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0

They worked out the total amount over 7 years for each.
Then deducted the amount of RHI I received (£2000 & £600), and then worked out the quarterly amount. No issue so far.
But I was hoping somehow there would be an equation or something to work out the amount not claimed from April to October 9th. Or easily enough, backdate it to April.
If I hadn't claimed the RHPP in March, but waited a few weeks for the standard RHI, I could be claiming the full amount from April.0
