says delivered and signed for

I bought some contact lenses online a few days ago.
Was taking longer than I expected and I checked the tracking (UK Mail) to see that it says ''delivered''
Not only that, but apparently I signed for it.
Unless i've got early dimentia, this never happened.
I've looked around the house and outside by the postbox etc, just in case.

I've written to the contact lense company and waiting for a reply.

What will happen? I'm betting that the driver couldn't find our house (can be quite hard) so just 'signed my name and carried on with his route.

  • The vendor will dispute the matter with the courier who will investigate. This may involve them sending you copies of the "signature" etc or not.

In the vast majority of cases then assuming this hasnt happened a dozen times already to you but with different drivers then it will ultimately come down on your side and the monies will flow back.

My contact lenses went missing in the post and it was all very painless with the vendor immediately saying they'd dispatch another set in the next 2-3 days free of charge. In my case they actually "turned up" the very next day so the replacement set were cancelled and all continued as normal.

You will find several similar cases on here where the couriers miraculously "find" the parcel is actually still at their depot etc and they get it out the next day to you etc

    Thanks II.
No, This has never happened before. Certainly never had an issue where i'd apparently signed for something when I hadn't!
The 'signature' was the worrying aspect as it would then seem that from the companies/senders perspective, their hands are clean and it's no longer their problem. They have a 'signature'.
luckily it's only a small box of lenses so not too expensive in the worst case scenario.
Still waiting for a reply. Will update.

    They repllied, saying:
I have checked on the tracking for you and it does show it was delivered to xxxx xxxxxxx xxxxxxx west sussex on the 04/10/2014 at 13:49pm. We also have a signature on file aswell.

On the notes from the delivery company UKmail we have description of who they were left with "driver describes "PINPIN" as 5ft tall brown hair and was working with wood when he arrived

Can you just confirm whether you have received these since or if someone else in the property has signed on your behalf with that description? They may have taken in your order for you and forgotten to pass it on.

Please get back in touch and confirm if this is possible and I hope this helps and your items are recovered soon.

    Kind Regards.

I've replied that that isn't me or anyone who lives here and that they must have been delivered to the wrong address.

Just waiting for their next move now...

To be honest I wouldnt give then any more than is necessary, like speculating on whats happened, as it just opens more avenues of possible inquiry or more backwards and forwards etc

A simple "the description doesnt match me or anyone else living here and not aware of anyone having been doing woodwork here" would probably have been better otherwise they may ask if theres another X Your Street or is there possibly an X Your Road instead near by? can you go and check with them etc etc

Strangely after this post I had another similar issue yesterday with something I was expecting and turned out the vendor had put the correct address on their label but the courier had put the wrong house number on the label they appear to have stuck to it (at least according to the vendor they put it on). Thankfully the neighbour came round last night to drop it off

still not resolved. What do I do next if they just keep saying ''well we have a signature''

Do I try to cancel my payment? (i paid with paypal) or is there something else I should do? I do I just put it down to bad luck and move on and eat the loss?
