Ford Extended warranty

Hello. I have done a lot of reading on this board about extended warranties, and have concluded that they are rubbish.

I just wondered if anyone has any experience of the Ford one though?

I bought a car yesterday from a Ford dealership. The bloke did a really hard sell on this-so much so that I nearly walked away from the car! I resisted, but said I would do a bit of research and possibly buy it when I collect the car.

My gut feeling is not to have it, especially as it includes AA membership without onward travel, which I need. He said he would find out if it can be sold without this.

I would love to know if anyone has this and how it has worked out before I decide. Thanks

If it a manufacturer extended warranty or an aftermarket one?

Manufacture extended warranty would be the only one worth choosing. But do read the exclusions.

I am not sure if it is actually a manufacturers warranty or not, it says it 'takes over when your manufacturers warranty expires' which would imply it isn't. It is called Ford Protect though. Also says in the leaflet that it is 'endorsed and promoted in conjunction with Ford'.

The salesman said we have to take it out at point of sale, but reading the leaflet this would appear to be untrue! Honestly, we can't they just be straight with you?

I can't find any reviews of it online. It says it covers wear and tear, which seems good.

In my view, the Ford Protect warranty is pretty good, and worth having. On my old Mondeo, it covered the dual mass flywheel (but not the clutch), a broken spring, electric window motor, EGR valve and a brake caliper, the combined cost of which would have been a lot more than the cost of the warranty (which lasted 2 years). They didn't seem to quibble any of these either, which was good considering the car had done over 100,000 miles when I claimed (took warranty out at 95k miles, there is a cut off at 100k for purchasing the warranty).

Remember, you can probably haggle the cost of the warranty down, I suspect they will have a good margin on it! Can't remember how much I paid for mine now, but it was nearly 3 years ago.
