because the contract is only 16 hrs. so holiday pay is only paid at 16hrs per week
my own opinion would be I booked it back in April.......I will take all 7 days...you will soon find out how good they are0 -
Because my contract only entitles me to 16 hours of holiday pay, and 16 hours is split over however they see fit, as far as I can make out from my previous wage packets.
Again, I can hopefully clarify this when I get my copy of the contract etc.0 -
I may be wrong but I thought holiday pay would be based on average hours worked over a period of time rather than base contracted hours in a case like this? You really should join a union so you have access to advice and representation on work issues like this.0

Depends on retailer. I used to work in fast fashion and it was very weather dependent. So although planned in advance the firm would take a view on current stock levels and weather forecast as well as local trading conditions when deciding these things
There would be a window when the changes would happen and planned accordingly might need 2 or 3 weekends set aside for changeovers, that window would be planned well in advance.0 -

only contracted to 3 days by the looks of it.
I would be looking for another job this is the scam that retail use to avoid their holiday pay obligations, should have been looked at as part of the zero hours investigation, this scam is much worse than any zero hours issues as at least zero hours get holiday pay for all hours worked.
No idea why the OP thinks they are taxed heavily something wrong there.
As suspected local management bricking it they should have had this stock changeover planned weeks ago.0 -

Does not work like that unless the contract is a true variable one, like a zero hours. The way a lot of place work is low hour contracts and then guilt trip/threaten if you don't do the overtime that does not qualify for holiday.0 -

Very long story which i'm not willing to discuss further. But I pay tax on all hours worked, and pay a significant portion of my wages into child benefit, repeatedly leaving me under the "protected pay" amounts I am supposed to be left with. This is a separate issue, and one I have been dealing with for a while, the short of it being a non-resident male, I should be happy they don't take more money.
Unfortunately, despite its downfalls, I actually like my job, I help a lot of people and get to go home feeling like I actually earned my little cash.
I just think I should recieve what I have requested, as I make very very few requests.
Leave for work in an hour, on the late shift tonight.0 -
Right here's the update.
I didn't post yesterday as I was told I had to wait for the office manager to be in to get a copy of my contract and the staff handbook. Turns out this was a lie and my copy was handed to the store manager to obviously scrutinize before he came to speak to me.
I was called into the managers office today, and effectively cornered.
I was told in no certain terms that my manager wishes he could fire me (his exact words), but he can't, but he wants me to get the !!!! out of his shop, so find a job as soon as I can.
He has said that if I try to apply for another job within the company chain he will actively work to destroy my application.
I can not use him as a reference, I am not allowed to ask him for anything ever again, I actually laughed at this point.
I was told in no short order that he hates the way I talk, because my voice sounds too sarcastic, and that i'm a terrible influence on others and detrimental to the health of my team.
Apparently I do barely enough work to keep my position, and the number of favours I have done for the store barely equals out the number of times people have had to cover me. (i've had 2 sick days in 1.5 years, and have worked double and triple my contract every week since I started)
I politely raised my opinion that I think he is incorrect, that I work as hard as I can and really enjoy my job, i'm disappointed to hear all of this but commended him on his honesty, then shook his hand and thanked him for this job opportunity. Asked him if we were done and went to complete my shift.
Unfortunately, I forgot to ask him to put it in writing, I will request this during my next shift.
See, THIS is why I was taking my holiday out of principle, and it has proved my theory correct. Be a spineless slave monkey, or be fisted.0 -
Well or the other way around, that clearly he doesn't appreciate your attitude at work, even if you are a good worker and your reaction to that request was the end of the straw. In the end, it is not him who will miss out but you. Only you will know if standing to your principles ended up being worth it or not.0

I gues there will be no problem getting time off for interviews.
The key bit was
I was told in no certain terms that my manager wishes he could fire me (his exact words), but he can't, but he wants me to get the !!!! out of his shop, so find a job as soon as I can.
Looks like you can take your time.
The next test will be what hours you get allocated coming up to xmas won't they need higher staffing levels.
Check your contract for the restrictions on having a second job as your contracted hours are low it would be unreasonable to have an exclusive contract.
Get another part time job and don't resign.0
