Removing a credit default

Hello Guy's hoping you could help point me in the right direction.

basically the story is my partner and i are saving for a house and recently when at the same bank as our Joint bank account they offered to run a mortgage check for us, however after putting my details in they said they couldn't continue.

I checked my credit rating a year ago and it was rated as good.

However a recent letter from Lowell Group for £75 has been sent to him but my Personal details were incorrect so after some internet searching I was led to belive this was simply a scam .... a long story short after over a year of investigation the debt orignates from an old Vodafone account in 2010 but due to changes of address contact had been lost until now.

I have a word document of all the correspondance between the credit agency and Vodafone over the past year.

can I contact someone about having this default removed? currently bidding for our first home so want to sort this quickly

Thank you in advance

Greg

So you admit it's a legitimate debt?

Why should it be removed? You defaulted on a contract, therefore you now have a default on your credit report.

If I run up a £10k credit card, then move to a different address without notifying them, and stop paying, does that mean I am not liable for the £10k I spent?

That why companies register defaults. People think that moving away will result in debts disappearing. As you've found out they come back to bite you just when you least want them to.

The default will most likely stay on your credit record for 6 years.
  • sorry guys I should have gone into more depth. the phone contract refers back to my student days, it was cut off and I settled what I thought was all outstanding debts with Vodafone, as far as I was aware everything was settled and vodafone had written to me to confirm it, however this is for outstanding line rental for the remainder of the contract (3 months). had I known of this I would have paid it staright away. but the Credit agency had got amy name wrong when Addressing the letters to me hence my thoughts on it being a scam ...... it has taken over a year of correspondance with Vodafone to discover this is a 'legit' claim.

Everyone has a past and I have done everything to put it right - I didn't move to run away i moved due to circumstance and as far as i'm aware Vodafone were aware of my change of address too

thanks for your reply's so far

  • First thing to do IMO is pay the debt.
A settled default will look much better than a default.

I don't think you can get the information removed unless it is a mistake.
