Hi everyone
Recently i moved into a flat which has economy 7 electricity starting from midnight.
there are number of storage heaters and estate agent give a brisk brief which i forgot by now. i never use one ever before in my life.
Wondering if there are other users of storage heaters here who can help me, thanks in advance.
I am trying to post a pic but just noticed i can't. Anyways i put this pic of storage heater in my avatar as well.
anyways there are 2 buttons and 2 dials.
1) first dial starts from * sign and goes up to 6? what this is for.
2) second dial got two set of figures from 1 to 24, one in the middle and other at ends with small pins, all moveable but currently been pushed out side? i guess its for timer, assuming i want this to store heat between midnight to 7, how i should adjust pins?
3) one button got I and II signs like normal light button.
4) third is a slider, and three signs on sides which are of clock, round circle and a hand sign.
Regards

You are best off finding a manual for your specific heater.
If you look on the unit, somewhere, there should be a sticker with the model number on it. Just pop that in to Google, and you should get somewhere.
Most storage heaters operate on the principle of having an output and inputis dial.
The storage heater uses the cheap rate at night to charge and store heat. The input dial controls how much you want to store. The output dial controls how much you want to release the next day
Do not leave the output on during the night, or it may just release the heat during the night.
With storage heaters, you need to get used to planning ahead, looking at the weather and judging how much heat you may want the next day. Experiment with it a bit. Do not just put the input on max and the output on max the next day.
The other options dials and switches may be because it is a duoheat model or some varient, where you can also use expensive day rate electricity, if you run out of stored heat. This is why you have a timer and switch, which will probably be for a high and low setting.
With any E7 system, use the day rate electricity as little as possible. You need to use at least 50% of your daily use between midnight and 7 am for E7 to be benificial.0 -

there is no mention of model and make anywhere.
currently all pins are at external outer edge at point 1 and middle dial can be rotated as well on point 2.0 -
It looks like a standard panel heater control. Are you sure you have an economy 7 tariff?
Have you got a picture of the whole uni.have Storage Heaters are big, bulky and usually two controls saying input and output.
Do you get from it at any time of day, so if you turn it on now, it heats up?
If so, it is not a storage heater, just a panel heater, which is useless on an E7 tariff.0 -

Yes, that is just a panel heater
To answer your numbered points
1. This is the thermostat. The higher the number, the warmer the temperature the heater will attempt to heat and maintain the room temperature at. Looks like there is a marker at the 9 o'clock position that is where you need to align the desired thermostat number to.
2. This is a timer clock. Adjust it by moving the little levers around the outside. Push them towards the centre for off, push them towards the oustside for on. Each lever represents 15mins. Adjust the clockface so that it shows the correct time. The small arrow head at the top indicates the current time setting. In the photo it is showing as just gone 5am.
3. This allows you to choose the heat level. Probably 1 kW or 2 kW.
4. This is the control. Slide it upwards to the clockface for timed control. The centre 'O' position is off. The lower hand position is manual control. i.e it ignores the clock and is permanently on. (but still under thermostatic control)0 -
Thanks everyone. in fact they are panel heaters as confirmed by estate agents and there is only 1 storage heater in flat. i guess economy 7 is useless and i should look for a standard tariff.0

- where is the storage heater, what storage capacity does it have, how do you heat water
- are you unemployed, retired, or do you work from home, if you do maybe E7 should be your tariffDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
