Incorrect information on credit report.

I recently applied for a student current account/overdraft with the co-operative bank and although I had some debt problems in the past (trust deed) this was over 6 years ago and so I was fairly confident that the application would be accepted.
After waiting the 5 working days that I was told it would take for a decision to be made I decided to call as I still hadn't heard anything. I was first of all passed around about 3 times before I finally managed to speak to someone who seemed to know what they were talking about and although she could not find my application straight away she did manage to track it down after speaking to her manager and leaving me on hold for over 10 minutes.
To my surprise I was told that the application had been declined and upon checking my credit file with experian (which I should have done beforehand!) I discovered that there was incorrect information on it relating to an account I had with Halifax around 2007 - 2008. According to my credit file the account with Halifax (which I had defaulted on :-/) was settled on 24th October 2008 when in actual fact it should show that the account was settled in April 2008 when my trust deed became protected and therefore it should no longer be present on my credit file.
After calling back the co-operative bank to advise them of this and to ask what would be the best course of action to take I was told that I would shortly receive a letter in the post informing me of their decision and how I could go about appealing it if I believed it unfair.
Now over 2 and a half weeks since I first applied for the account I have still not received any letter informing me of their decision, nor their appeals process, and I am unsure on how to proceed. I am aware of the process involved in requesting that Halifax correct the information that they have recorded against me with the credit reference agencies etc but as it is now so close to the date where the account /default (24th October) should fall off my credit file is there much point in doing this? I was thinking that if I haven't received a letter by the 24th I'll sent a letter of complaint and state that I would like to appeal against the decision.
Has anybody got any experience of being in a similar situation and if so how did you deal with it?
Normally I would have just given up by now but i'm a pretty skint postgrad student and I could really do with the cash!

Did you declare the trust deed on the application form?0
-
No, as I've now been fully discharged from the trust deed and that was over 6 years ago (April 2008). As I mentioned I'm pretty sure the issue is with the Halifax account and it showing as being settled on the wrong date. Can I ask the bank for more specific information on why they declined my application?0
