Missing in the post? Help!

Hello,

I'm pretty new to eBay but thought it would be a great idea to try to get rid of some of the old overdraft... until this morning when the buyer of an item which was dispatched 4 days ago sent me a load of messages saying it hasn't arrived yet, send it now etc.

I've got the proof of postage (2nd class) , but my question is - how do I proceed from here? I checked with Royal Mail and it said it should arrive within the next day or two?! Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

With it being sent 2nd class you should wait up to 7 working days to see if it arrives. Since the postal strikes the post has been quite erratic and 2nd class post is low prioity. If it still doesn't turn up you can put in a claim to the post office by printing out this form :
    ftp://ftp.royalmail.com/Downloads/public/ctf/rm/Inland_(2006current_version).pdf

Hand it in to your local post office with the proof of posting taking copies for your own records. As an Ebay seller I have had to put in claims before and they are generally very good, quite slow though I've had to wait 4-6 weeks for the compensation, they will cover up to £34.

I normally refund the buyer straight away to save any headache as you are pretty much guaranteed to get the compo from Royal Mail.

    Hope this helps.

Try and keep buyer calm explain when it was posted and that hopefully it will arrive in the next day or so. To be honest on 2bd class post i wouldn't be getting too worried until after Tuesday.

Royal Mail do not classify it lost until 15 days. However buyer will be getting agitated by then, many on here will refund before that and claim from PO. To be honest just keep good comms and fingers crossed until middle of the week.

The other point is where in the country is it going? Flood affected area? If so all bets would be off in book until the weather calmed down.

    What was the item worth?
  • Thanks for the advice, I sent a message back to the buyer apologising for the delay and explaining when it was sent and that I have proof of postage, and offered to go back to the post office I sent it from (the people are lovely, v helpful) to see if I could find anything more out.

It was sent to Middlesex from Warks, so I've no idea whether it would be affected by the weather. The item was only worth about a fiver, the buyer paid less than that inc postage.
