AHHHHH need help !! any advice is welcome

i have a 11 week old child my partner had a phone call stating we have had both child tax credit AND tax credit stopped due to too much earning ( he is on minimum wage and i don't work) now to go from £1,397 a month down to £800 is had for us. what should we do (the conversation { is this mr.******? do you live at ** ******* *****? we have stopped your receipt of both child and tax credit*end of phone call*} is this normal?)

    Did you ring them first? Or did they ring you first? Did you get a tax credits notice in the post? Did you voluntarily tell them your new income?

  • nope £11,000 per anum and didnt disclose any info

    I don't think that's right. Perhaps you have been overpaid though the call sounds suspicious.

    Sorry, I popped off for a bit, but yes I agree with the others. It seems a bit odd that they randomly phoned you, and your tax credits before did sound unusually high.

    But that is a BIG drop.

    As the posters here have been saying: ring them tomorrow. :)

    On £11,000 the award would be around £6160 for the year (£474 every 4 weeks).

    Op quotes £597. £1397 - 800 which is why I said it was very high.

  • Did they ask any security questions like asking for you and your partner's national insurance numbers and dates of birth?
    These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.
