    Cat or "Nipper" mousetraps.

I tried the ultrasonic repellers. I have three ranging in price from £5 to £30. All are equally useless. I had a mouse come out and do a tap dance in front of the more expensive one.

    I won't use poison.
  • They're evidently not sufficiently deterred by cats, or there wouldn't be so many half eaten ones dumped on my patio.

The golden rule is, if a 50p piece can get through a gap, so can a mouse

We had an infestation a few years back. Poison bait in the roof space plus following all pipe work into the house and filling all spaces with wire wool and cement has worked

Yes the ones in the attic will die and will need clearing out

It would be a huge mouse that couldn't fit through a 50p sized hole. Or did you mean a 50p piece on its side?

Get a couple of traps and use a bit of chocolate as bait. Reset them every time you catch one as there are always a few rather than just one. Throw the dead ones on the lawn, the birds will soon have them.

When you stop catching them for a couple of days it means you have probably got rid of a small infestation. They head for my garage when it turns cold because the boiler is in there, so I'll be setting our traps this week just in case.

I use a sonic gizmo; brand is Pr0cter pest stop 4000 for larger homes.

    It works! :D

Thanks for the replies everyone. A cat is a no-no. I'm hoping that this is a temporary problem and a cat is for life (or is that dogs? [smiling Smilie]), plus I'm allergic and TBH I don't really like them (sorry).

My sonic thing has arrived and has been duly plugged in - it may or may not work, depending on which reviews you read. Time will tell. The Rentokill man should be here tomorrow, so hopefully the pests will gone soon.
    Thanks again.

If you have a hole that is big enough for a biro to get through, so can a mouse, so go around the outside of your property and seal up any gaps if you can.
Potentially difficult on the top floor ...

I didn't want to put poison down 'cos i thought if the mouse was to go somewhere ......... under the floorboards; behind cupboards, or wherever to die. You'd have the smell of it and would need to search where it was. I got simple old fashioned mouse traps from the £shop.
The modern poisons don't leave them smelling and decomposing.

Proper pest controller is the answer, yes it's likely they are throughout the house. Are you detached, or semi / terraced? If not detached, then they may be playing all the way through a series of lofts.

I missed it was a top floor flat! Yes, the loft maybe the place they are, pest controller told us to put some up poison up there. Ours weren't there, they were near to the cupboard under the sink in the kitchen. Another place that I was told they commonly get in. Have you checked that the flat/house underneath you isn't having the same issue?
