Phone screen fix?

I need the screen replacing on my galaxy s4. A place local to me has quoted £175 which I definitely cannot afford.
I also looked at this website thephonefix co uk

who have quoted just over £100 less. Was wondering if anyone knows anything about them as I can't find anything good or bad about them.

Is it usual for you to enquire on one site and get a reply from another? them links in the reply was nationwiderepaircentre co uk

I am a bit concerned that my phone might "disappear" if I send it off.

Thank you

Have you asked Samsung if they could do the job for a fee? It might be worth a shot.

I fixed my girlfriend's Samsung screen using YouTube tutorials. It cost her the price of a screen (£10ish). I would only recommend this if you have a steady hand and are good at pulling things apart without damaging fragile ribbons.

it's possible to do it yourself for under £20

Replacement screen kit : (around £13)

    Replacement instructions:

And a few odds and ends like a small bottle of eucalyptus oil and a pack of of CD/DVD cleaning wipes to make sure everything is clean and dust free.

The reason it's so expensive is because the screen is actually made of 3 components (glass, digitiser, and LCD) and these are all bonded together at the factory.

If it's just the glass that has cracked, there are plenty of 3rd party companies that will disassemble it and replace the glass on it's own, or you can do it yourself if you have nimble fingers (as suggested by S0litaire).

If you can't do it yourself (or have someone you trust), then you'll have to pay the full amount although a brand new S4 can be had for £300 these days.

I would strongly advise against using a third party to fix the phone.

They will not use official samsung components, it will not be Gorilla glass but some cheap alternative £175 is too expensive (especially as it won't be official Gorilla glass).

Samsung use Intercity to do their repairs, Google Samsung Intercity and give them and ring or send them an email. They charge £145 for the repair.

P.S Don't try doing it yourself because 1. you may mess it up and 2. The kit you get will be cheap components.

(I broke the screen on my S4 and sent it to Intercity, never got there though because Yodel "lost" it)

  • Thank you everyone. I definitely don't want to try it myself.

I don't know about gorilla glass but the place I got the £175 quote from did say it was all Samsung approved parts that they use, I take it that probably isn't the case then and they re just saying it to get business?

I'll try going through Samsung themselves then, was just trying to avoid that as they always wipe the data and the neither of the back up systems I have set up have actually saved anything (google and dropbox). I really need my data preserving if possible (tried plugging it into computer since its just screen broken but its not registering any files at all).

Also didn't realise there was a mobile forum as I missed it when looking to see the most appropriate place to post so sorry :)
