Is it now too late to overseed ?

Hello All,

I was meaning to do this job in September ....

However, as the weather has been good (ground still warm) etc. would now still be a good time to overseed the lawn ?

My big weather concern today is the wind - although I would be topsoiling first - and also the autumn leaves.

So, the question is - is it still worth doing now or should I just topsoil and leave it until the Spring to overseed ?

My golf course throws seeds around all the year round.
Perfect time to do it, as you would have spent the last 6 weeks watering

Hope the OP's question has been answered. May I respectfully ask for more info on this. Where do you get the seed, how do you spread, does it work or do birds eat the seed etc.

Depends on what you want to achieve.
Standard lawn , buy at any supermarket/ shed , own brand will do.
If you have a shady garden / want a bowling green lawn , go to a garden centre and pay a little extra.

How to use ( watch last nights Monty Don Gardeners world) scratch service and throw seeds down .
Expect to lose some to the birds, but grass seeds are cheap.

I would always buy from a specialist. Choose the right one and their prices match or are better than the usual supermarket or DIY chain options. Also a specialist will supply fresher seed that is tested so germination rates will be higher and the consistency of the finish better.

Lots of these guys deliver so you can order online. Our family use this one https://www.grassseeds.com/
Their economy range sells at £5.4 per kg for a 5kg bag (B&Q eqivalent £6 per kilo), they also sell a range of other seed types which might be more suitlbe for your lawn depending on the environmental conditions or wear your lawn gets. My brother uses the hardwearing one which has been noticable better for the area the kids use to play on.
