French keyboard

I have a standard English Macbook Air laptop, plus a French keyboard. Obviously I want to write in French using my French keyboard (which organises the letters and numbers slightly differently).

My French keyboard will talk to the screen on my laptop no problem, using bluetooth, but it is registering as if it were an English keyboard.

For example, the top line of an English keyboard is QWERTYUIOP, but on a French keyboard it is AZERTYUIOP. When I type 'A' on my French keyboard it shows as 'Q' on my screen.

Any suggestions?

you could try control panel > regional/language > keyboards > change keyboard.

As a bonus, when you're out and about and don't want to lug an extra keyboard around with you, once you put the Mac into French keyboard mode you can actually use the built-in keyboard as if it were a French one.

On the MacBook open System preferences and then click on keyboard.

Down the left side click the + symbol and add a French keyboard. Once you have more than one keyboard loaded you will see small national flag appear on the right of the screen bar.

A union flag for the UK, or the Tricolour for France.

If you then click on the flag you can select French/British as you need it
