Outside marked area PCN advice

Parked in a car park (was waste ground) in Manchester. Paid the parking fee but received a PCN as I was parked outside the marked are. No area actually marked but a sign 10 feet in the air said do not park on paved area. Much of paved area difficult to establish. Read many of the threads so know the gist of the advice. I am clear that there is no financial lost to the car park company but could they argue (if they took it to court) that I have breached the contractual terms of parking and if so what could my actual liability be.

It really does depend these days on which ppc or more relevantly the trade organisation it belongs to , BPA or IPC.
