No they dont. If an error occurs that shows the figure was wrong then you have no legal entitlement to that figure.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). its not an error, if im told an amount I just want to make sure its right and they have no comeback on it, im told over the phone im getting x amount by the manager and it will be a cheque can they then phone me back and say oh we have made a mistake?0

Why dont you just wait until the cheque arrives?
Most of the banks operate multiple tiers where the person investigating the complaint is not the person that does the check on how you should be refunded. This forum has seen a number of posters say in the past that they were told they were getting one amount but then the lender used the money against the existing debt (typically due to arrears, defaults, written off amounts etc).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). No, if they find an error prior to paying you then they can correct it. The bank has to provide you with a "full and final" written offer and even this can be amended if an error is subsequently found before they actually issue the cheque.lucifer666 wrote: »hi to all if im told that im going to get x amount over the phone and its a recorded phone call do they have to stick with that amount even if its wrong on their behalf?
Basically, you only have the money once you have banked the cheque.
Why are you concerned about the accuracy of such a 'phone call? You should get a letter before any payment is made, anyhow.0 -

Normally organisations do not discuss 'figures' over the phone for that reason - too open to mis-interpretation. In much the same way you cannot get medical results or exam results over the phone.
So if you have been told an 'exact' amount over the phone its likely it was not within procedures. Either way, I would have thought you would have a relatively close idea of what you are owed anyway, so if they told you a figure significantly outside of that range did you not query it at the time?0
