Idea's for what to do today - wedding anniversary, husband working away

Hi all, just looking ideas for what to do with myself today.

It's our 2nd wedding and my husband is working away so I won't even get to see him.

I'm feeling a bit down about it, missing him like crazy - over a 14 week period I get to see him for 1 week (we went on a lovely holiday and it was exactly what we needed to spend a bit of time together) and a some weekends I will see him some I won't.

Not sure exactly when he will be back - probably not for 2 weeks, but depending on his work schedule he may be home during the week - as they are waiting on materials

The weekends I don't see him I organise to do something with my friends, but that generally involves going away for a night, travelling etc. The weekends I do see him, we go visit his family too, who live 100 mile away - so its a lot of running around, and I just feel so tired all the time, but I need to keep myself busy or else I finish up sitting around moping all day.

Buy yourself some lovely bath time treats and pamper yourself. Or treat yourself to a facial if you are not hanging around waiting for him to phone , as I used to be!

Congratulations on your anniversary. Maybe you could spend some of the day arranging a really special treat for when you get together next.
EG, something you've never done together before, something he has always wanted to do, or just something totally outrageous. This may help the time pass, he will be in your thoughts (in a good way, not just missing him) and the result will be a lovely, well thought out surprise for him.

My husband has often been away on my birthday or our anniversary during our 27 years together. I usually treat myself to a nice meal deal (M&S or Tesco Finest) a book or magazine and watch a DVD or something good I've recorded. DH usually sends me flowers on the day too, which is lovely.
  • Skype!! My OH was working away for our last anniversary, so we arranged a Skype date. He got room service, I made myself a nice meal, we both had a glass of wine, and we talked to each other over dinner. The hotel staff even brought me a single red rose, and also an indoor firework and a huge piece of chocolate cake!! Well, no, I wasn't there to enjoy them, but it's the thought that counts. It was a good laugh, and we felt we'd done the best we could under the circumstances.

And stop moping - he's working away (which is miserable), earning money for you both to enjoy, and moping makes you seem ungrateful. If this is going to be something he does regularly, then you need to accept it and get on with it. Chin up girl!!

I would rather he was working at home and earning less money, imo no amount of money is worth us spending so much time apart.

It is not something I want long term, and its not where I thought we would be when we are 2 years married, the working away was meant to be temporary but husband thinks the money is worth it, whereas I don't - we do talk about it, but we don't want to spoil the time we are together by having serious conversations, or arguing about stuff, we want to enjoy each others company.
Hopefully this stint will be his last time away for a while and then we can really have a change to discuss things and come up with something that satisfies us both,

We live in Northern Ireland and he is working in Southern Ireland - and yes I work, he is working nights as well and staying somewhere with no wifi, so can't even Skype.

He arranged for Champagne and flowers to be delivered to me on Saturday, and that was really lovely and really cheered me up!!
