Driving Licence updates in the news again.

Then the EU had to meddle and the photo licence was introduced along with the £20 charge every 10 years. So it's another broken promise from the government.
It wasn't the Govt. that broke its promise, a promise that it could not make, as others have pointed out, it was the EU that changed things.
And your comment about the council house is such a poor analogy that it beggars belief.
You own the council house, you bought it and have the paperwork to prove it.
You don't own the licence, it is issued by the govt. and they can change the rules or remove it from you as and when they see fit.
And I'm still trying to come to terms with the fact that you believe what politicians tell you. Or was it selective belief because it suits your argument, as poor as it is?One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
As somebody who is relatively young so only knows of the card licence, can anybody tell me why many older people are so absolutely hysterical about the idea that somebody might tell them they have to give up their paper-only licence? I have never known a piece of paper that so many people are willing to fight to the death for to protect.
Another concern is loss of entitlement. It's not unheard-of for people to get a photocard license (having sent in their paper license) to find that their motorcycle (for example) entitlement is missing. Unless they have proof of entitlement (e.g. they still retain their pass certificate) then they've lost the entitlement and must retake any tests etc. to regain it.
That's why sometimes people apply for a photocard license claiming to have "lost" their paper license. If the photocard version comes back with missing entitlements the paper version can suddenly be "found" to provide proof of entitlement.0 -
