Problem with Barclaycard

I'm in my first month of having a Barclaycard. on the 23rd of September I went online to pay my bill. The system crashed at the point of authorising the payment and logged me out, i stupidly went back in and made the payment, i then discovered the payment had been taken twice from my bank account but only credited once to Barclaycard. They have no record of the payment and have been quite unhelpful when I have phoned them. They have asked me to forward them proof that the payment was debited twice but didn't give me an address, when I called them to ask for an address (quite aside from the difficult I had in getting ANY address out of them) all they gave me was a PO Box number, which I'm unhappy about as i want to send the my bank statement to them by recorded delivery. This is really stressing me out, I can't afford to just lose £100.

Any advice? Thanks

Can you scan it and email it?
  • Has the payment actually cleared your bank account twice, or is it just affecting your "available balance"?

I'd phone and ask for an email to send it to them.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

  • yes it's cleared twice from my account (confirmed this with HSBC) I did ask Barclaycard for an email address that I could send the statement to and they told me they didn't have one, which is ridiculous

Have you asked HSBC for help? They could probably do far more, quicker than you can.

  • Vanquis did this to me a couple of years ago, I phoned HSBC and they could see that it's clearly an error that they've taken the exact same amount twice (even though one was a debit card payment, the other was direct debit). They did a chargeback on it, Vanquis hit me with a £12 charge, so I then phoned Vanquis and they admitted their mistake and refunded that + a goodwill gesture.

Yup, was just going to chime in with exactly what the previous poster said. If you ask HSBC to do a chargeback as it is a duplicate payment (as they will both have different timestamps, you might want to tell them to do the first one, as that is the one that won't have credited the Barclaycard), they'll get the money back to you fairly quickly, and will then send the paperwork about the dispute later.

Every silver lining has its cloud.
  • thank you for the replies. i contacted HSBC and they have been very helpful. They have refunded the payment and are raising a claim with Barclaycard.

Just make sure to keep an eye on your statement and contact BarclayCard if anything funny arises. They might add some charges for reversed payments etc, if that happens you just need to contact BarclayCard and explain the situation and get them to get in touch with HSBC.
