Unfortunately it's a fact of modern life that the world and his brother can access data held about you at the credit reference agencies, basically with no questions asked. It's a fallacy that you need to give consent for these searches, as your case highlights.
I had no idea. I thought you had to be a company to search but from reading their website I could search someone if I wanted to and using a free trial to boot. I have to say they do seem nice though, a pleasant Welsh girl told me they'd email me between 24-48 hours from now letting me know who it was.0
