Non Dependant Adult - affects on Benefits?

Hello!
Hoping someone can offer me advice.
I am in receipt of
Council Tax Benefit,
Child tax credits,
child benefit,
carers allowance and income support.

I have two adult children, both at Uni, one living away from home and the eldest has moved back home to study for a Masters. She and her boyfriend were living together for the passed 2 years and have both moved back to the family home.
I have 2 other children, aged 16 (6th form)and 18 post 16 special school -Carers allowance is for my 18 year old.

My question is regarding my Daughters boyfriend. Am I right in thinking it is just the Council tax that will be affected? I currently pay £21 a month. My understanding is that it will depend on his income, the amount to be paid. He is waiting to start a new job and is currently training and waiting on his crb to come through before he can start.
He has given me copies of his last 2 months payslips, to be sent to Council tax, along with student exception letters from the university's my Daughters attend.
Have I missed anything?
Thanks in advance for any help. :)

I don't think you have missed anything. You may like to ask about Second Adult rebate although I believe most councils (who now all run their own council reduction scheme) no longer offer this.
  • Thankyou Lindyloo for your reply.
I was sent a letter by Council tax a while ago with regards to a possible reduction due to being a carer, so perhaps they will offer a second Adult rebate. I hadn't thought of that!
Do you know if it's only the Council that I need to inform he is living here?

Looking at the benefits that you are on then the council is the only one you need to inform.

Are you getting housing benefit or Support for Mortgage Interest? if so there will be a non dependent deduction for either of these.

Interesting about possible deduction for being a carer.

    Which council are you in?

    Edited:

Just had a thought regarding the possible council tax reduction. Perhaps they were referring to a reduction in the valuation band of your property if you had certain features because of your disabled son?

  • nope no other benefits.
I will have a look for the letter, as maybe I read it wrong!
