Morning Campers.......OMG, it's afternoon, how did that happen??
Yesterday, I began 'Project prepare for Winter'. Loads of jobs to do, so will aim to complete over the next fortnight.
*Re-hang thick warm curtain over kitchen door. Cuts draughts dramatically.
*Carry on using up our glut of pears & apples. Made pear & blackberry jam this morning. Kitchen smells glorious. Thought I'd have trouble getting it to set as pears are low pectin but I added lemon juice & made a funny little pectin bag using a square of muslin with two apple cores & some lemon pips, & it seems to have set fine. (In case anyone thinks I have been buying those expensive pre-cut muslin squares from some up-market kitchen emporium.....nope! Used a square of old boiled up IKEA muslin curtain. Perfect!)
*Did rubber chicken while fruit cooking: It did roast dinner last night, will do cold chicken salad & jackets tonight, Mexican-style chicken topped home made pizza tomorrow & chicken & veg curry on Weds. There's also enough to make a stew or soup, & it's done a packed lunch. Carcass in SC for stock.
*Prepared a big bowlful of pickling onions for brining later today.
*Did a few surveys as am quite near cash in on Toluna, so trying to maximise points.
*Wrap some parcels - all recycled or gifted paper & wrappings from my stash.
*Tested our de-humidifyer to see if it still works. It does. We do have condensation problems over winter without it on first thing in the mornings & when using lots of pans.
*Read energy meters & updated my stats.
*Progress knitting project which is a nice pair of socks for me. Yarn was a gift.......lovely gift as it is way more expensive yarn than I would generally buy for myself, so feels very luxurious to knit.
I shall do other things, too, but first I need to get some lunch & organise all my Project Preparing for Winter tasks into a better more coherent list. Absolutely POURING with rain here.....so glad I got this week's laundry done over the weekend so it dried outside on the line for free.....feel the heated airer will be coming out all too soon!
New week, new start......have a good week, everyone.

  • Hello all
I too am in the put on a jumper camp - actually took the cover off our bed and wrapped up in it on the sofa at the weekend. No heating yet!
Finally took the plunge and attempted to send in my meter readings. Gas reading was not accepted (this is the one in a wooden box in the corner of a room with a pipe right in front of the numbers) and I now think the massive in debit bill in February may have been because we sent in a wrong reading. I am hoping that this is the case. Somehow I managed to take a photo of the meter showing the serial number and reading and need to send that off. Fingers firmly crossed.
Otherwise am at work, have had my packed lunch and have got HM veggie soup in the fridge for later.
Am feeling ill:( today - very hot so am not feeling the cold at all (every cloud and all that).
    Best wishes x
