Monday 6 October - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

    Hello :j

Monday again, and pouring with rain here :( I guess we were lucky to have the lovely September weather, but it looks as though autumn has arrived with a vengeance now. I have even put the heating on  It only comes on in the bathroom and airing cupboard though, as the other radiators are firmly turned off! Might light the woodburner tonight if it is still wet and miserable though :DIt cleared up a bit, so no woodburner yet - bathroom and airing cupboard radiators won't come on unless temp dips below specific level

Lots to do today as we were away over the weekend:

    [STRIKE]Check banks [/STRIKE] Done, all ok :)

    See to chickens Done

Wrap and post 2 ebay parcels. Both (unused) items sold for 99p despite having lots of watchers, and given the hassle of posting, the fees etc, I have decided that ebay selling just isn't worth it, at least for clothes. I shall therefore bag up the rest of my unwanted things and take them along to the charity shop. I know others have far more luck, but despite being a 'top rated seller' whatever that means, it is just not worth the extra work for me :( Still, hopefully the charity will do well out of it - I support a local hospice :)Posted and donated

Take some new items along to sales unit to fill spaces. I am a bit fed up with this too, after a theft last week, but will persevere for now. Done

Pay cheque into bank Forgot to do this :(

Put on a wash in case it brightens up later. If not I shall have to get out the airer nearly dry, finish on airer

Do a small shop - I have a £4.50 off a £20 shop voucher to use at Mr S :)Didn't spend enough to use the voucher :(

Pop along to the surgery for my flu jab this afternoon  Done

Make chilli for supper tonight - that should warm me up :)Done, yum :D

I am sure there are lots of other things but this is all I can think of atm :o

Hope everyone has a good day :)
  • Hi everyone, can I join? Or rejoin? I have totally let myself down, haven't achieved anything and feel totally ashamed! If there was a walk of shame I would be first in line. My spending is out of control, my food waste is appalling and the clutter which could potentionally make some money is still just sitting there!

So thought new week new start with new aims and some organisation forward planning and thinking involved.

Firstly start diet today.. The overspending on food and coffee shops has left me with a few too many extra pounds so I have decided it's not good cause I will end up buying more clothes cause the overhang has got too much for the jeans! I know this is not an immediate money saving thing but over time I reckon I will save on the cost of new clothes I don't really need and food!

    No coffee shops today!
Sort out the eBay account I've opened yet haven't got any further
Start looking at income and outgoings
Write letters to 2 creditors who been avoiding
Look into the wonga loan loophole as I still owe them money on my dmp
    Ironing
Try not to put heating on

This is my little list for today! Have a good day!!
;) 14 months to gain control of life ;)
:( starting with £10,000 worth of debt :(
    :o extra money made - £0 :o
    :D money paid off of debt - £0 :D

    Hi Dawn
At the risk of doing a hospice out of goods, which just sounds plain wrong doesnt it. Should you decide to keep going on the ebay front a lot of it comes down to the amount you sell & also adding a higher postage charge than you expend. Most small clothing items can be sent for around £2.80 2nd class signed for. If you charge £5 as standard, with a 99p selling point, you will still make money. Granted its not a fortune but if you sell enough every month there is a point where it becomes worth while.
Anyway just adding in my 2ps worth. (not literally you understand as I'll keep all me 2ps at the moment:T)

    Morning All

Ziggy - Sorry to hear your son has a broken arm. And you are not feeling great either.

Puzzcat Im in your jumper wearing, heating resisting crew today as well!

GainingControl I know what you mean on cutting back being good in more ways than one. We were drinking far too much wine but since I was put on gardening leave, so to speak, I havent touched a drop. Reckon thats saving us £30 a week roughly. Also have no car at the moment so Im walking everywhere, and taking 1 bus ride a day with my tired little boy after school, I cant say no to that its cruel, but I've lost weight too. Good luck with yours.

Well its grey & cold in London today.
So far have tidied up, given the compost a stir, Im amazed at how wormy its become, is that a good sign?
Have tried to Adpoint, but it hasnt any for the 2nd week running, well today there was a 7 point ad and thats it. Last week I earned a princely 15 points.
Checked on my ebay items. Have 2 watchers on a watch (ironic) with 2 hrs 38 to run. If that sells will be £45 inc postage, but its a valuable so need to look into postage on that one. Cost to me £500 back in the heady days of bonuses but I havent worn it in around 3 years, since moving from office to self employed life & as the mins like to say 'I am not my stuff'
Husbands comic collection is dwindling glacially. No sales there recently.
Kids Levis on for 99p, 1 watcher, may sell. Spiderman mask on for £1 one watcher.
My big hitter this week is the pair of converse I got for free from some students who dumped the contents of their wardrobe out onto the street prior to moving. Community minded. Have so far raised £10.50 in bids, 23 hours to run, £5 postage. Will cost around £3 to send. Im going to toddle off up the high street later and see if the charity shops have any more, if the price is right, can sell for a profit.

My son is at a playdate after school so I dont need to pay for the bus today, £2 saving, & he is being fed as well. Bonus. That said, I will be doing it myself on Friday, so swings & all.

My big task for today is to tackle the cheque for £31.61 that has sat sadly in my intray since July when it was sent to me by a PPI company, in my maiden name. Tried to pay it in, my bank said no. I did the ridiculous thing of shredding the letter from the PPI company before the cheque cleared & I cant remember who they are exactly. So some digging to do to ask if they can re name the cheque so I can cash it!

All meals from stores. Coffee at home. Resisting the urge to put the heating on by wearing a lovely big jumper for the first time this year.

    Hello all,

I hope everyone is ok. Sorry to hear of illnesses, thefts and other bad news.

Another lost sheep here, trying to re-join the fold. I've not been very well (been quite close to exhaustion/burn out/general breakdown of brain). I'm still fairly knackered, but much better than I was. I've got some holiday coming up which will do me the world of good.

Just going to post some small steps. Need not to overwhelm myself...

    • Check online banking
    • Reconcile banking against spreadsheet
    • Buy tomorrow's lunch/dinner at supermarket
    • Go to cash point and take out rest of weekly spends - put into dated envelopes
    • Put winter blanket onto couch and remove summer throw.
    • Hope that car savings pot covers MOT and service
    Small list from me

DawnW - Sorry to hear you haven't had much luck selling clothes on ebay. I think ebay can be a mixed experience, but have to admit we have made a reasonably decent amount selling clothes. We've both lost a lot of weight over the last few years. I've gone from a size 26 to a size 16, so have sold my clothes in plus sizes as I got smaller. I've sold everything I listed except 1 t-shirt. I started most garments at 1.99 & usually they would get bid up to a few £s, sometimes over £10, depending on what they were. 'Monsoon' clothes sold especially well. I also sold several coats, two of which sold for around £35 & mr f's wedding suit for about £45. I'd say we made between £300 & £400 in total, so felt it was worth doing. I only use recycled stuff for packaging & always weighed the item & added on a min of 50g for wrapping so as not to lose on postage. Agree it's time consuming though.

Bobarella - Wormy compost is VERY good! They chomp it & you end up with even better compost. I expect they will be the red composting worms. They are your wiggly friends!
