The Cloths of Heaven
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light;
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.
W. B. Yeats

What about this? (though it might be a bit childish for an 11-year-old): http://www.itakeyou.co.uk/wedding-ideas/wedding-readings-poems/i-like-you.htm"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0

Would he be interested in writing something himself? If so, he could ask his English teacher to help him write something creative (my hubby, a retired teacher, has just started doing creative writing classes with Year 7 in his school & some of their work is amazing). He may be happier reading out something that is personal to him & his family & he will feel more involved in the ceremony.0

I hate that the female dinosaur is almost exclusively described in terms of her appearance and the fact she likes shopping a lot. Why can't the female dinosaur be funny or clever or have a rich character?0 -

You can always amend it to suit the bride and groom.
I think it's lovely. I haven't heard it before (but I don't go to many weddings).
I think you'd be amazed, OP, at how beautifully an 11 year old boy can read even the most demanding text with a bit of practice. My son was a similar age at our wedding and did the reading. (I printed his reading on our thank you card as so many people asked for a copy).:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Think this is quite touching, found it on http://www.coasttocountryweddings.com.au/index.php/wedding-ideas/wedding-advice/100-wedding-ceremony-advice/1546-5-poems-or-reading-for-children-to-read-on-their-parents-wedding-day
Family Comes Together by Glaedr the poet
Family comes together
For always and forever
In sickness and in health
In poverty or in wealth
Family comes together
For always and forever
Without any reason
Anytime or any season
Family comes together
For always and forever
In death or in life
In happiness or in strife
Family comes together
For always and forever
In anger or in kindness
Whether all seeing or in blindness
Family comes together
For always and forever
Whether for work or for play
They somehow find a way
For family to come together
Because families are forever0 -
I've been to loads of weddings and this year was the first time I'd ever heard the lovely dinosaur reading. Anyway this one is another common choice but I still think it's lovely, my husband's younger brother read it at our wedding.
On Your Wedding Day
Today is a day you will always remember
The greatest in anyone's life
You'll start off the day just two people in love
And end it as husband and wife.
It's a brand new beginning, the start of a journey
With moments to cherish and treasure
And although they'll be times when you both disagree
These will surely be outweighed by pleasure
You'll have heard many words of advice in the past
When the secrets of marriage were spoken
But you know that the answers lie hidden inside
Where the bond of true love lies unbroken
So live happy forever as lovers and friends
It's the dawn of a new life for you
As you stand there together with love in your eyes
From the moment you whisper ‘I do'
And with luck all your hopes and your dreams can be real
May success find its way to your hearts
Tomorrow can bring you the greatest of joys
But today is the day it all starts0 -
A Good Wedding Cake
4lb of love
1/2lb of sweet temper
1lb of butter of youth
1lb of blindness of faults
1lb of pounded wit
1lb of good humour
2lbs of sweet argument
1 pint of rippling laughter
1 wine glass of common sense
A dash of modesty
Put the love, good looks and a sweet temper into a well-furnished house. Beat the butter of youth into a cream and mix well together with the blindness of faults. Stir the pounded wit and good humour into the sweet argument, then add the rippling laughter and common sense. Work the whole together until everything is well mixed and bake gently for ever.0 -

I think this is a lovely idea, or at least let him help to choose what to read. That way you're more likely to get something age appropriate that's meaningful to him as well as you.0
