Is it safe to use Googlemail yet in public locations?

After that recent thing about some Googlemail accounts getting hacked into or something, then is it safe by now to log into your Googlemail account somewhere public?

Has that glitch been fixed? Or can I check from my own computer as to whether I'm okay to log into it on a public computer?

Security exploits are fixed by Google pretty quickly. But, as with all technology, the hunt is always on to find others.

GMail is one of the safer online email companies - ALL traffic has been HTTPS long in advance of the other companies taking it up for all traffic (not just the authentication stage)

Google also have offered 2FA for a long time - special codes you get either from an app ojn your phone, vis SMS or even a few printed out and kept in your wallet. It's free. Sign up for it, and you'll have very little to fear from public computers/hotspots ever again. I could give you my email address and password, but without *my* phone in your hands they're useless to you.
