Has Anyone Lost Weight Without Dieting?!
Comments
-
I track my cals on my fitness pal, and am just under my calorie intake for the day.
I'm losing 1-2 lbs a week which is a sensible rate of loss
I have a shake as I have breakfast at my desk so it's easier for me
I was just sharing my current eating which works for me0 -
Thank you for all the replies. I have been reading but haven't had chance to post much.
I have been doing quite well..am still struggling with the 'good and bad' things and cannot get out of the habit of mentally thinking, how many calories, points, syns or whatever but even when. I have done this, I have just tried to disregard those thoughts quickly!
I was peckish this afternoon so had a snack of veg! 2 birds eye steam fresh bags!!! And I actually really felt like eating it rather than I must eat it!
I did go and pig out on my first christmas cake afterwards though  - am gonna have to re do it because I wasn't too impressed with it.
I also found some videos on you tube..the Leslie Sansone walk at home ones. I have done the 1 mile one 3 times and it has helped me feel a bit better. Hopefully I will progress to the 2 mile and so on soon.0 -
Its simple. Dont live to eat but eat to live. Look after your body by eating nutrient dense foods (these are rarely found in supermarkets and never in packets) and have one or two luxuries. Diets simply do not workI like to give people as many choices as possible to do what I want them to. (Milton H Erickson I think)0

Why would you pig out on something that you didn't even like, when you're trying to lose weight?
I genuinely want to know why you did that.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -

Sorry, i didn't make that very clear! I did enjoy the taste, it was absolutely blooming gorgeous!! I meant wasn't impressed as in it wasn't as christmas cakey as I'd expected. I used a hot toddy cake recipe and it was a bit too moist which I don't think was suitable. That's why I need to redo it. (As well as the fact it has been broken into).
And when I say pigged out, I had a largeish slice, not the whole cake or anything.0 -
Try dishing up a reasonable portion of it, sit down and enjoy it properly (so maybe not whilst working/internetting/watching TV/doing-other-stuff-and-not-really-paying-attention-to-what-you're-eating) and then don't go back for seconds (easier said than done, I realise, and if you figure out how to do that successfully most of the time, please tell me how).
Kind of sounds like you did that in any case, you just had a largish slice. So now you've learnt that that size was a little bit too big, next time, have a slightly smaller one. Sounds to me like you're doing really well.0 -
@Anoneemoose: I lost all the weight I wanted to lose in about 4 months or so - about 10% of my body weight at the time. I have an office job but I do walk to the train station every day, about 15-min each way. And doing yoga 1x week and some light walking during the weekends, so not that active physically.
This is the food 'philosophy' that worked for me - low sugar and carbs, high natural fat. No counting calories, no pills, no extra money for advice, etc.

For 4-5 months I tried to cut sugar and starches (bread, pasta, rice etc) completely from my diet, and that's what made all the difference. I am now back to eating carbs but I try to get them from vegetables rather than pastas and bread. I will have rice and bread once in a while, but not daily, as I used to before. I try to stay low sugar and get it mostly from fruit and honey, if needed. I don't drink any juices or fizzy drinks, coffee, water, and tea does it for me. And I drink wine, not beer.
Below is a very good summary:
Eat all you like
Meat: Any type, including beef, pork, game meat, chicken, etc. Feel free to eat the fat on the meat as well as the skin on the chicken. If possible try to choose organic or grass fed meat.
Fish and Shellfish: All kinds: Fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel or herring are great. Avoid breading.
Eggs: All kinds: Boiled, fried, omelettes, etc. Preferably choose organic eggs.
Natural Fat, High-Fat Sauces: Using butter and cream when you cook can make your food taste better and make you feel more satiated. Try a Bearnaise or Hollandaise sauce, check the ingredients or make it yourself. Coconut oil and olive oil are also good options.
Vegetables that Grow Above Ground: All kinds of cabbage, such as cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage and Brussels sprouts. Asparagus, zucchini, eggplant, olives, spinach, mushrooms, cucumber, lettuce, avocado, onions, peppers, tomatoes etc.
Dairy products: Always select full-fat options like real butter, cream (40% fat), sour cream, Greek/Turkish yogurt and high-fat cheeses. Be careful with regular milk and skim milk as they contain a lot of milk sugar. Avoid flavored, sugary and low-fat products.
Nuts: Good to eat instead of candy in front of the television (preferably in moderation).
Berries: Okay in moderation, if you are not a super strict or sensitive. Good with whipped cream.
Basic tip for beginners: Maximum 5 grams of carbohydrate (excluding fiber) per 100 grams of food
Avoid if you can
Sugar: The worst. Soft drinks, candy, juice, sports drinks, chocolate, cakes, buns, pastries, ice cream, breakfast cereals. Preferably avoid sweeteners as well.
Starch: Bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, French fries, potato chips, porridge, muesli and so on. “Wholegrain products” are just less bad. Moderate amounts of root vegetables may be OK (unless you’re eating extremely low carb).
Margarine: Industrially imitated butter with unnaturally high content of omega-6 fat. Has no health benefits, tastes bad. Statistically linked to asthma, allergies and other inflammatory diseases.
Beer: Liquid bread. Full of rapidly absorbed carbs, unfortunately.
Fruit: Very sweet, lots of sugar. Eat once in a while. Treat fruit as a natural form of candy.
Once in a while
You decide when the time is right. Your weight loss may slow down a bit.
Alcohol: Dry wine (regular red or dry white wine), whisky, brandy, vodka and cocktails without sugar.
Dark chocolate: Above 70 % cocoa, preferably just a bit.
Drink most days
Water
Coffee: Try it with full-fat cream

PS. A couple of months ago I also stopped eating breakfast, as I wasn't eating too much of it anyway. I just eat lunch, an afternoon snack, and dinner. But I started doing this after I lost all the weight, and don't want to lose anymore. My weight has been stable for the past half a year or so and I feel great.Single mother working full-time. If you are trying to lose weight it would be a good idea to eat less fruit (full of sugar, it makes you feel hungry) and more veggies. Or eat fruit that is low in sugar e.g. berries.Single mother working full-time. Mortgage slave. Credit card debt-free wannabe.0 -
You don’t have to stop eating the foods you love altogether but you can use healthier alternatives to your favourite foods. You can make easy changes and food swaps that will cut back on unnecessary sugar and fat. You could start by making one small change to your diet, for example swapping from sugary cereals to plain cereals and from sugary drinks to water or milk.
We hope this helps.
