Strange lines wallpaper

On the downstairs living room there are some squiggly lines on the wallpaper.

Some follow a vaguely diagonal line, some vertical, some horizontal and some go off at odd tangents. I suppose the lines could best be described as straight but squiggly as if drawn by someone with a slightly shaky hand. If that makes any sense.

Some are short runs, some longer.

No actual holes in paper - no paper torn.

None of these lines start at the top of the wall or finish at the bottom. None start or finish anywhere near a corner.

If I run a metal/stud detector over these odd lines a fair lot of them actually set off the metal detector indicating that wires are underneath. But not all.

any clues?

Could anything of interest/concern be underneath?

Photo would be nice, but I will make a guess.

Could it be badly covered wiring , you are seeing cracks in the plaster, showing thru the paper. I take it you have recently moved in ?

Thinking of redecoration soon ?? rip off the paper.

    .

Many thanks for the reply wallbash.

Photo wouldn't be possible to be honest - too faint - and no break or tear as such.

Well some, perhaps the main ones, do follow lines that trigger an alert on the metal detector thingy (it claims to be able to detect live metal and cable and to distinguish between them but testing of the tester shows that it is just testing for metal) but not all of them.

There are a fair few of these odd lines on the paper.

No - not just moved in - been here over 10 years.

Lines of glue or pva or something from the wallpapering or plastering?
  • Could there be another layer of paper underneath with a metallic pattern or maybe bits of a a foil damp proof lining showing up?
