how often should we bathe (well, shower as its all we have in our house) our cavalier king charles spaniel?
Just wondered how regularly you all wash your dogs?

Only when it is dirty/smelly I would say.
Dogs do not do well with being washed too often, it can ruin their coat as the natural oils get washed away too0 -
Our springer gets a bath every three months or so, when he goes to the groomer. We try not to wash him in between, but if he gets particularly mucky and smelly, then we will. Thankfully he's not into rolling in other animals' poo.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -
I have two cavaliers (had four) and only bath them when they look grubby. This probably two or three times a year.
They aren't a smelly breed, so a good grooming is usually sufficient.0 -
I had a staffie many years ago (short, smooth, silky coat), and unless he was downright filthy, I bathed him once or twice a year. His coat stayed lovely, and he didn't smell. I brushed him occasionally, but he hardly needed it.
Now have a mongrel (medium, coarse, wild and wiry coat), and she's a massive mingerShe's a smelly git, I have to bath her about once every two months. She could actually do with bathing more, but I'm conscious of maintaining the oils in her coat, as per the comments above.

No more then every couple of months.
Except for the times my cavalier has walked through paint trays, found a mud bath, sat on something messy . . . . .:j got married 3rd May 2013 :beer:0 -
My vets( very good vet) has a website that says do not use baby shampoo as animals have a different ph level.
Wash if it smells but also very important to brush .
Important to rinse properly too.0 -
My sheltie gets bathed a couple of times a year unless his skin is playing him up then it's more (malaseb or more likely Dermacton). My Bichon is a clarty wee minger and she gets done once a month, I have tried to keep her longer between baths but she's just to manky.0

I wash my cav about every 2-3 months after grooming. I do sometimes wash her ears more often (because of the length and how they love to dip their ears in food) and also her back area (bum and back legs) because of the fringing, it can become a little dirty and smelly with no 1 and 2's.
I do groom her daily with a conditioning spray (you really have to make sure your grooming your cav at least a couple times a week as their ears and fur gets matted easily). I also have a dry shampoo for dogs that just refreshes the smell and coat that I use inbetween washing.
They are little dogs so they do tend to get grubby from grass or mud on their paws and belly, but a good rub down with a towel normally cleans most of the dirt off.0 -
My two schnauzers get washed every three months when they go for a trim. The three others that shed hair, never get washed unless they roll in something or get really really muddy and even then I ussually just do legs and tummy.
It depends on your dog, but certainly mine, don't need washing. My youngest Klein Spitz is 4 and she has never had a bath and she has gorgeous fur, smells nice to.0
