I was awarded DLA mid range care component - 6 years ago on a "lifetime award" basis (ie forever - or as long as I live for - whichever comes first)
I am now considering asking for a reassessment - based on my reducing mobility - however, I am assuming that this will be under PIP - Even though there are no plans for PIP in my area !!
I am obviously concerned that they could refuse a mobility claim and even reduce/stop my care component - but have a letter stating "lifetime award"
Should I risk it or apply for it ?
Any advice please.
How long will I be waiting for a decision/payment ?

If you ring the DLA helpline you can ask if you would be reassessed under DLA or PIP. Depending on area it could be either but they can tell you which it is. They will also be able to tell you if they would look at both components. I've just done this myself and would be reassessed under DLA still but they would look at both components.0

If PIP isn't in your area yet then you would be reassessed for DLA but regardless of your lifetime award you do risk losing all of it. Good luck.0

Thanks - unless I can find a working email address for DLA, I am stuck on what I am on at the moment, anyway....0 -
Could you find a welfare rights worker or a friend you trust to call on your behalf. You may have to be present and give permission for them to talk to .... but hopefully that would be manageable for you if just a brief confirmation sentenceThanks - unless I can find a working email address for DLA, I am stuck on what I am on at the moment, anyway....0 -
DWP need to get themselves in order - or they will find themselves hauled up before the Euuropean courts for failing to meet equal opps. ...0

HAVING A LIFETIME OR INDEFINATE AWARD ACTUALLY MEANS VAERY LITTLE.
IT DOES not MEAN THAT YOU HAVE IT UNTIL YOU DIE...
IT JUST MEANS THAT YOU HAVE NO SET TIMESCALE FOR REASSESSMENT AND THEY CAN REASSESS YOU AT ANY TIME THEY LIKE

Life time award means nothing with PIP. Those that have it on DLA should make the most of it.HAVING A LIFETIME OR INDEFINATE AWARD ACTUALLY MEANS VAERY LITTLE.
