JSA - "Redundant" when in reality I resigned

I have recently resigned from work. It was either that or being dismissed for underperformance. Seeing that a dignified resignation would reflect better in my CV I negotiated 1.5 month's paid leave to focus on landing a more suitable job.

My concern is that if I don't secure employment, I will have to seek income support in the form of JSA.

I know that they always cross check with employers the exact reasons why you left your job. Does the same apply if you claim you were made redundant?

I don't want to twist the truth but I feel I may need to just to keep afloat while I land the next job. I have never, ever claimed for anything in my life so this is all new to me.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks

if you claim to have been made redundant they will check and find out the truth.
so that would be fraud on top of a sanction
  • Claim now - tell truth - then if sanctioned it may well be over by time you need money.

If the OP is truly on paid leave he is still in employment and cannot claim until this has ended.

If you say you were made redundant they will ask to see a redundancy notice, fail to provide it and they will check so may as well just tell the truth.

When I was made redundant nobody asked to see anything

That was over two years ago, so hardly relevant to existing guidance.

They don't. They check the reason for leaving through an enquiry directly with the employer; or if the employer no longer exists, through their liquidation status. To my knowledge they always have. If you told them the truth there is no reason for you to know this - the information they obtained confirmed the story you told them.

It's not twisting the truth. It's making a false statement to obtain a benefit to which you are not entitled. Don't do it- it's not worth it

    Only the last job matters.
Even if this was a one day job in a shop for a couple of hours.
  • Thanks for your replies. Best to come clean with the truth. Hopefully I would have landed a job by the end of my gardening leave.
