Anyone got any good recommendations for personal finance tracking software?
We've been using Microsoft Money on PC for many years, even though it's not been updated for a long time, and it's always done the job for us OK but this morning our master file got corrupted when the machine crashed and it turns out the auto-backup hasn't been working for ages so we can't recover it. :-(
As we have to start again anyway I figured it was better to use something newer that's still being supported and which maybe has a mobile component too.
I only want to be able to record basic savings account info then current account and credit card transactions (reconciling against monthly statements), and recurring bills/expenditure so we can plan loan and credit card payments each month.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Microsoft have a free replacement which may suit your needs. It is Money Plus Sunset and can be downloaded from Microsofts website.
support2.microsoft.com/kb/2118008
The above is a link to their help page or if it doesn't work just search on Money Plus Sunset within their site.0 -
If you still want data from the old file - have you tried the 'Repair file' option ?0

Hi
I've used YNAB, You Need A Budget for years and it does the jobs you mentioned and more.
There is a free trial, link at the bottom for you, well worth looking at and well worth looking at the forums as well, they are very helpful in helping you to use the program as intended, it was the best money I ever spent.
No connections just a long term, x Microsoft Money, happy user

Its only recently I needed a Money management/book keeping software that a normal user can just pick up and use. I used a few , including Money Manager Ex but have just started using the Money Sunset edition. A pity it doesnt have online banking features - the UK market is crying out for these features and why Microsoft stopped developement of this brilliant software is beyond me.
Glad to see that at least they made it available to everyone for free.
Anyone know what the differences between Sunset and Sunset business are?0 -

Money does have online banking as far as the banks support it: download ofx files. It works fine with NatWest and Santander. Cant comment on any others. You may want to look at the final UK version rather than the US Sunset edition.0 -

Are you saying that even the final version supports online banking? I doubt a 2005 version will support onlilne banking for keypads etc for something like First Direct or Barclaycard. If it does, I'm sold! Theres no need to download any other software if the online banking works fine for my banks. How do i find out if it supports my banks?
At the moment I just import .qif statement files into Money and manually go through each tranaction. is this what you mean by OFX support?0 -

Money Sunset works if you can export a File form the online banking service and import it to Money. This is the same as older Money versions.
Alas in the name of security most banked pulled the ability to directly interface Money to the Banks system mainly as they put the keypad type devices in to place.
Moey worked perfectly with the Woolwich until they pulled the online access, it wasn't as simple as Microsoft not developing it any more, also banks wanting to drive customers to the web site and so try and flog extra services...0 -
I just did a Google search for Mint.com UK alternative and found this Reddit thread.
You might find it useful.0
