Credit card contract

Is it possible to request a previous credit card contract of mine from the company? Even if it was created 6-7 years since.

Thanks in advance..

    Welcome to MSE

You can request anything you like; doesn't mean to say that you're going to get it.

Even if they can't provide the original doesn't necessarily mean that you can wriggle your way out of repaying. By the way, that's a generic "you", I'm sure that you personally wouldn't dream of doing that.

thats very cynical, you have been here too long.
The poster could be asking for some other reason, although i cant possibly think what other reason they are asking for, other than to find a way to not pay back the money they have spent.
  • Hi thanks for your replies.

It was actually my application form I am interested in getting a copy of.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a copy of this?

Long story short, after Wonga's recent acknowledgement of irresponsible lending regarding failed checks on affordability, I want to dig deeper as I am currently in a DMP due to a number of companies giving me credit.

I am pretty sure my original credit card application which started my debt was filled in by myself stated I was unemployed - yet they happily gave me £1000 credit.

Just a bit of research I will be starting.

    Regards,

    Chris.
  • If you're hoping to get it all paid back to you, good luck with that because it's not going to happen.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

You forgot the last bit of that sentence....

...and me accepting and spending the money that gave me quite happily...
  • Not sure if that is my goal in all this, would be obviously nice.

More of a bit of fact finding - need to read into it more and do some background research.

What if I could prove irresponsible lending initiated my spiral into debt at young age - and the repercussions which are associsated with debt having an adverse effect on my finances and quality of life?

I know the first person to blame is number one :A
  • good luck is all I will say.

i think I will sit back and watch this thread with interest, will get some great responses I am sure.
  • As others have said, you are free to ask for whatever you want. If you want to formalise it either do it as a complaint or as a Subject Access Request under the DPA however there is no guarantee that the bank will retain application data on its systems indefinitely.
  • Might have to start a new thread in the debt section, only started this thread here as I was only intending to obtain a copy of my original credit card application form as a starting point for my research.
  • I see...thanks for that.

Anyone else feel Irresponsible Lending to be the next PPI in regards to payback and compensation? Or am I dreaming?

    ..again.
