I am lots of Facebook selling sites - if anyone wants adding to them just PM me (I am a normal person and you can delete me afterwards - I won't be offended!)

I would suggest buying some preloved ones cheaply as everyone gets on better with different types. Once you have found what suits you best you can then build your stash up with new/more expensive ones.

Penguin - thanks for the offer. What are the Facebook selling groups? Are these second hand. I understand pre-loved are cheaper but I don't want to buy nappies I cannot see.

I'm not sure that ebay allows sales of pre loved cloth nappies. I had various ones including a whole set of bamboo ones which barely got used and ended up selling them for 25 quid on Gumtree so might be worth looking somewhere like that.

I've just bought quite a few preloved ones from ebay and a lot of the listings said that they weren't allowed to list the nappies as used but they got round it with the wording. My little one is 8 months and we've only just decided to take the plunge, had quite a few bargains from ebay.

Definitely have a look for a nappy library near you. Even if you don't want to borrow from them, they will have demo kits you can look at to get an idea of what might work best for you. There's a nappy library network on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/UKClothNappyLibraries - if you look under ABOUT there's a link to a searchable map.

I started using cloth when my baby was four months as I didn't want to pay for newborn sized nappies and I wanted to get used to having a baby first. I bought various pre-loved ones from ebay and from a Facebook selling page, and I have to say the ones from the Facebook group are in better condition and they put extra photos on if you ask. I also filled in the Nappy Lady's questionnaire which gave me a place to start on what brand might suit me and my baby. However don't just buy one or two brands.

I know they probably aren't the most mse but I find sized ones fit my LO better than btp and therefore leak less, and are much slimmer under clothes. Yes I'll have to sell them and buy a size up at some point but i'll get a lot of use out of them in the mean time and what's the point in saving money if they don't work right. The sized ones I use are Fuzzi Bunz and Little Lamb pockets. BTP or One Size ones I like are Charlie Banana and Bumgenius Freetimes, so these will hopefully last until she's potty trained. I do use Tots Bots Easyfit but I don't love them as they are bulky and still aren't a great fit on the thigh. I didn't get on with Bambooty, the one size Little Lamb and two part systems. So as you can see it's important to try a variety, also you can start part time rather than wait until you've bought 20.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
