I have a reasonable dell pc and creative speaker system which has worked well but seems to have thrown a wobbler.
For some reason the sound isn't working at all.
I have tried switching off and on again which is the sum total of my techie knowledge but that failed miserably.
I have tried a different speaker and headphones but I get nothing out of either.
Any advice gratefully received thanks

DELL Service Tag?
Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound. Any output there?
Device Manager Drivers missing or item disabled?0 -
Same thing recently happened to my Dell XPS420 (getting on a bit now). There is no audio device showing as present at all, either in the Bios or Device Manager. I am forced to conclude that the onboard sound chip has failed.0

Thanks Nifty, not really sure what I am looking for which explains why my question was so vague.
When I go to control pane - sound - playback it has a picture of a speaker which has a tick next to it and if I play an audio track the bar goes green which seems to suggest the pc thinks there is sound being produced.
However with the speakers plugged in or even headphones it doesn't emit any noise.
The device manager says I have the latest Conexant Smart Audio drivers up to date?
Stumped!
Thanks again0 -

It is being produced. Service Tag?
Make sure that you are plugging the speakers/headphones into the correct socket.
Right click on the Speaker option that you get via the Control Panel and choose Properties...in order to check where the output is going.0
