Balance Transfer.

Hello All,

Can you transfer a balance that isn't in your name?

In otherwords, can I transfer a balance in my wife's name only to a credit card in my name only?

Hope this makes sense.

  • Yes in most cases.
All the balance transfers I have done online just ask for the card numbers.
Telephone or in person - they might ask more questions.

Be aware your wife's debt then becomes your debt.
Is there any reason why she cannot apply for a card in her own name?

Tesco seem to be an oddity here - it doesn't ask for anything other than the card number, but they make you tick a box to confirm that the card you are transferring from is in your own name. It also says in the Important Information section below the transfer form that you may only transfer balances from cards in your own name.

I suspect, however, that they would not check, and the transfer would go through fine, although I have not and do not intend to test this.

    Thanks both for your replies.

I have transferred to Tesco recently and noticed they asked if it was my debt. So, is it just Tesco that ask you this?

By the way jonesMUFCforever, if the Wife can put up with me, I can put up with her debt ❤.
