£1845 reclaimed - no hassle

2 months ago I was charged £30 by Barclays for them allowing me to go £5 overdrawn! I have requested a £0 overdraft facility and expected my Electron card to stop me going overdrawn.

I rang Barclays to complain about this charge, which they refunded immediately. Whilst on the phone I asked if they would look into previous charges, as although I had not had any charges for a year or so, I had had plenty previously.

I received a standard letter 2 weeks ago stating it would take longer to calculate and this morning, to my surprise, received a letter offering £1845!!

Seems to me that the complicated process of threats and letters are uneccessary - just call them up.

Do you know if that's the total of all of your charges or are you just going by what they are offering? The reason i ask is because knowing the ways these banks work then this will only be a percentage of what they actually owe you.
If i were you i would accept the offer stating that it is 'without prejudice' then request a list of your last 6 years charges just to check this figure is accurate . If like i suspect they owe you more then you can still go after the rest of the money.
    Hope this helps.

This does make me smile. Without asking for money, the bank offer you nearly £2k. And you think its easy money. That sounds to me like somewhere, the bank know you have probably another £2.5k in charges to come, and are offering a quick settlement. Echo Kellymundy statement, ACCEPT WITHOUT PREJUDICE then ask for charges for 6years. Do the maths, ask for the remaining. Be interesting to note the outcome.
