Selling or relinquishing timeshare/points ownership

We have had points ownership with what is now Petchey leisure (owned by leisure dimensions, part of the MGM group) for 15 years or so. We have had some good holidays but with the rise in the maintenance fee and restrictions on when we can travel it is no longer a cost effective way of taking a holiday for us.

However, from what i have read it is difficult to sell these ownerships and we are tied into paying the maintenance fee for ever if we still 'own'

I have had a letter from ITRA who are offering to include us in a group legal action against them on a no win no fee basis. However, on researching this company it appears they too re dodgy.

Has anyone an experience of releasing themselves from their contract with Petchey leisure or other timeshare ownership company? Is it viable just to stop paying the maintenance fee.? Can the company take any action in this circumstance and would they?

Its so hard to work out what to do and there seems to be so many sharks out there. I just want to get rid (for some payment if possible) of this commitment whats i am young enough do so. I don't want it to be a worry/burden when I retire.
