Horrid here too - blowing a hooley & never stopped raining. The burn is really high. I think there will be some flooding in places.
Went round the local wood earlier today & it was scary with some trees down - I was silly going in when it's so stormy.0 -
It seems like it's rained at some point every day/night for a fortnight here. Which isn't great for the leaking roof above extremely expensive equipment at work, although it's apparently being taken seriously now I've been seen wrestling the largest tarp imaginable in a tiny space each time I've finished using them (to cover the bits that could kill me).
More pigeon wrangling today. I'm getting good at it. And I'm still being plagued by people being daft about the things - so I'm getting blunter about the fact they occupy an evolutionary niche, fly incredibly fast, are brilliant navigators and feed things like Peregrine Falcons.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Pigeon wrangling? Some sort of local sport perchance?
Our thermostat has packed up so we have emptied the stove of coal - burning coal again. It's a beggar.0 -
Hello day dreamers, sounds like we are all having horrid weather. I've had one dry day since moving in on the 19th. The garden is still like a bog and despite my cat being a very outdoor lad he's refusing to leave the house. If he does go out he sits on the excuse for a patio and moves around it a couple of times before coming back in. He's never out more than 10 minutes, so I know it's bad.
I have been shortlisted for an interview at work but I am torn about attending. It's a promotion but would move me firmly int a managerial role and I feel very young in my career for that. It's also a lot of work for the interview for a role that I don't think is right for me. I'm going to ponder on it. Birthday weekend this weekend so I'll focus on that.
In other news I'm now divorced! Yay. I have broadband, some of my post appears to be being delivered to the right address although I've had no letters for over a week, no reply from Royal Mail about this who have closed the complaint saying they can't stop the delivery office sending it elsewhere but will speak to them! And I am considering putting an electric fire in, no flue or chimney so could only have electric or a flueless gas fire. I've seen some that puff out mist so they look more realistic. I doubt I would use the heat function much, but want a centre point and the warmth of the fire effect. I've had electric before and it was ok.
I like the new house but not sure how long I want to be here. I'm missing my garden s lot and missing being able to get outdoors, even at this time of year. Maybe the spring and some drying out of the ground will help lol.0 -
No rest for the wicked im busy sowing in December as any other month Geraniums and Begonias currently, will set the Irish moss for the lawn just after Christmas that's going to be fun as the seed is like dust but I save myself £800 by doing the work myself rather than buying in plugs.
Hopefully Sunday will be dry enough so we can have a go at bodging up the conservatory The wind is pretty wicked so might be interesting.
Happy Birthday Fay hope you have a wonderful weekend its mine on the 12th but im at an age that everyone's learnt not to mention it but I will have an extra glass of wine in commiseration for myself0 -

There's more to life than promotions, Fay. I just seemed to fall into mine; ended-up as acting deputy head of a large primary school without thinking enough about it and burned-out at 40. It was the best thing that could have happened, although it didn't feel that way at the time! :rotfl:I stopped smoking, drinking etc and re-focused.....That's when the plant business began.:A
It's also why I was proud of DD2, when she dumped her last employer, took time out and found another who'd allow her to follow her interests, starting with 6 months doing the basics to get a feel for things. Retail's at a crossroads and they'll need people who can think their way out of the box they've put themselves in.
I think most gardens are probably a sea of mud now. We're glad we've the new path, which hasn't flooded at the bottom, so the drain in it seems to be working. We're due more heavy rain today, so I expect Pete is watching both rivers, with the one from Dartmoor looking the most likely to give trouble.
Next week, things look like they'll be brighter here....:) This is a good time to sit indoors, write Christmas cards and watch all the leaves whistling past on their way to Mr Dog! :rotfl:
Happy birthday. Mine's soon. DVLA sent me a nice reminder......:mad:0 -
Happy Birthday Fay & Dave. Have to agree with Dave if the promotion doesn't feel right then it probably isn't.
The gloom of Winter is upon us & I just think that it will soon be the shortest day & then countdown to the sun coming back here in mid January.
My foot is still sore so I can't be of much use outdoors but it doesn't really matter as, like most - the place is a bog just now.
Low cloud & grey. BBbbbrrrrrrrrrrrr0 -
It's pants having a birthday in December, its mine on the 11th.

Mines not till January, which is worse, 'cos no one has any money then!
DVLA sent me this form saying I have to apply for a new driving licence, because on this particular birthday I become officially an old fogey and a potential danger to the general public. There's a whole string of questions that boil down to:
"Are you blind, deaf, or away with the fairies yet?"
I even have to give them a new mug shot.
Deciding to be a cheapskate and print my own, I found it necessary to have an A level in photography resizing, just to meet their stringent demands. Then, having finally achieved a passport sized photo of me, not smiling, blinking, or wearing a beanie hat, I discover the printer has made me so red faced I look ready for a coronary.....
So, back to Photoshoppe (It's an old version) to lighten my complexion.
Think it might just about pass now!:D
Edit: A right hooley here and absolutely peeing down outside now. Glad we are in for the night.0 -
