His legs are a bit short, aren't they?
Mind you, I think the dog is full grown and Kingston has a bit of re-proportioning to do yet.
We have Kingston, Jamaica in the Panto this year, when we get back to it. The deranged sea captain is bewailing the loss of the ship's cook and says, "The sea clasped her to it's bosom and carried her away.....arrrr!"
To which the cabin boy replies: "If anyone did any clasping and carrying away of Old Peg, it was that docker in Kingston!":rotfl:
Not quite Jamaican weather here today, but pretty decent, nonetheless. We spent the day clearing all the dead stuff in the beds, pruning, bonfiring etc in shirtsleeves, only to come in and see them forecast Siberian blasts later in the month. Minus 4c!!!
Wrap Kingston up warmly.0 -
Welcome aboard the ship Viking - small is sensible - less is more.
Lovely goats - beautiful pics.
That foal Alfie - just picture postcard gorgeous.
Elderly neighbour died after a long illness and I've been trying to be a good neighbour and just being there for his devoted wife who is obviously very tired after everything.
I feel I should be doing more but it's a fine line between not wanting to interfere and being a pest. But I think we have a good arrangement - she knows she can phone day or night & I'll just keep an eye out - pop in once a day or when ever she ask me to.
It was a lovely day & I got a good walk on the beach with naughty boy who really can be trying at times - it's all a learning curve. But it was good to be out when the sun was.0 -
Sad to hear about the neighbour, choille.
Kingston is gorgeous, Alfie, legs up to his armpits
Love the goats, Dafty. Hope the (doggy induced??) asthma is getting better.
Dave, you sound as busy as ever.
Welcome Viking.
Nothing much happening here. We were supposed to go on a scouting mission to Dum & G last week but the snow put paid to thatWe won't be able to go now until March/April time. We're thinking D & G is just going to be a temporary move (so probably just renting), with the Inverness area our ultimate goal. One of these days we might just come up with a plan and stick to it...

I AM SO IN LOVE !!
now mud free and a right pickle !!0 -
I was so tired last night I thought you'd had to postpone a camping trip Poppy....:o but I'm up to speed again now!
I know D&G isn't exactly the Highlands, but it's moving in the right direction and, well, you never know. Look at us; all set to move into West Wales, and here we are, 150 miles away...Took some years to get my head around it. I'd left Devon 'for ever.' :undecided
I was knackered yesterday evening because it was such a nice day, we'd decided to tackle the remains of the elm hedge at the front, which is about 80% dead. Trouble was, the trunks seemed well over 2' thick so we weren't clear how things would turn out with two relatively small chain saws. However, the trunks were so old, they were mostly hollow, though that brought other problems, as they'd filled-up with soil and other chain-blunting stuff.
Anyway this is what they looked like. You can just see DW in the middle for a sense of scale. In the background you can see the ones I did earlier with daffs coming up. Will try to finish them off today, then we can start planting the bank.0 -
I have a little sad news....
I might have mentioned that our second kidding was ... difficult. The youngster was a bit weak... his feeding erratic and uncertain.
He was riven with diarrhoea and weak, his legs wobbled, and his will was fading...
His mother seemed slightly uncertain as to whether to feed him, or reject him. We now know why, and understand her confusion...
It was a difficult time for us all... we are not sure we did the right thing...
Now, we know we did not! We apologise to humanity across the World.
I have yet to find the Number of the Beast on Him, but I'm sure it is there. He now stalks from pen to pen, glowering pure evil at his young comrades, who bow, cowering, to His foul will... His mother knew best, that the World would be better without such a malign threat, but the milk of human kindness shone through, and she fed - now all of us shall face fire and brimstone.
We should all sacrifice, as He would wish, long-legged horses and virgins (are there any of the latter, anywhere), for His wrath will know no bounds, and the trees shall fall through chomping. Come the dawn of the half-moon... we shall name him thus... and the Gates of Hell shall open, and unleash the End Of Days.
In other words, he's pulled through, the little sweetie! Aaaahhhh, adorable or what?
(feel free to sacrifice any spare long-legged horses - oh, and supply virgins*...)
*Grapes will suffice0 -
Oo-er, Dafty, he does look a little scary, but I bet he's just as cuddly as all the rest......for now!
Finished off the front hedge today and took all the large pieces of hollow trunk to the yard in the van. We plan to put them in suitable locations so they can rot and provide food/shelter for beetles etc.
We left part of the end stump as a feature. By then, the old Screwfix £50 chainsaw was smoking, so it was probably a good time to stop!0 -
dafty ..... now that has a look that is not of an angel !! think you have your new burglar deterent !!
well Kingston is doing great but is a feisty opinionated little thing ! does not / will not have a foal slip headcollar on ! having tried and failed [ she shakes her head so vigerously it just Frisbee's off then she plays with it !! ] so will wait till she is a tad more civilised before I try again.
it is VERY cold here at night... bl**dy cold ! I can feel cold draughts / air coming from the windows as I pass them ... have rads on AND open fire going and still theres cold coming from somewhere ??

Officially finished my job now. Gulp.
DD1 is away to her first lambing job tomorrow. She's on days then she goes somewhere else and is on nights and then she's back to milking.
DS1 has moved out to his new job so spent most of last week building flat packed furniture. Deep joy.
DD2 is on the last day of her lambing job and then she's back to college.
I'm taking 2 weeks to myself and to go and visit my mum then I'm in a the deep end working with OH.
