Difficult to say.
I do not want to pre-empt anything but my gut instinct tells me that insurance company will not pay out here.
(Took loan out in September but had signed on in February - things must have been bad for him to do this and certainly not something that you on the spur of the moment.
I think the only real option here is for the bank to refund his premium and interest to date and to work out an affordable repayment plan with him)0 -
Thanks for some useful comments. The CAB have given me advice and I'm weighing up my options. Just thought I'd post a quick one to say it hasn't been resolved yet and I shall post when there is something of substance to comment on rather than speculating on what may or may not happen.0

just as a matter of interest.
If you take out payment protection with Norwich Union do they insure it themselves or place the business with another provider? Could you please look at your terms and conditions People Power and let me know? There is more than one way of skinning a CAT. Especially a fat one.I am a former Broker, former IFA and former compliance officer, for my sins.
However, I have since seen the light.0 -
we are having a similar problem with Norwich union but regarding the illness section of the PPI my hubby has had a loan with a company for 18 months never missed a payment, when he took out the loan we had the usual ppi offer and we took it up having read T&Cs my hubby suffers from a medical complaint which we informed them about before signing and also that he had attended his surgery recently for backache. "who doesn't get backache" said the salesman, he made a note of it and said any problems the company will be in touch. we had no communication so accepted that they had no issue with the medical side, well 18 months later my hubby has to have surgery for prolapse in his spine- needless to say norwich union won't pay out. we did every thing in our power and are now in the middle of an appeal with them.Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together."

Hi petermb
Policy document states that the insurers are Aviva Insurace Limited trading as Norwich Union (member of the Aviva Group)
One of the things that really gets me about this...I know, I said I wouldn't go on but hey...pfff...it's getting to me still...Norwich Union and HSBC work together do they not? They were happy to lend me money and happy to sell the policy and then happy to phone me repeatedly and slate each other.I don't feel as a customer I should be 'in the middle' listening to this stuff. They should sort it out together. I want to take responsibility for my borrowing but feel these people are totally unethical in the way they sell stuff and then offer NO help in finding a way forward out of a mess despite bank literature which says they will deal with repayment problems in a 'positive and sympathetic' way.
hm71, I wish you all the best with your appeal and with your hubbies improved health. These matters are draining,it goes with the territory that if someone makes a claim then they are not in an ideal situation from a health or employment point of view.
Where does one go for that necessary support and advice, apart from the CAB and this forum?0 -
there is a thread here about ppi
I am not sure its relevant, but its a very long thread, there might be something in there that may help you
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=117175&highlight=ppiI always wanted to be a procrastinator, never got round to it...0 -
Also have similar problems with Norwich Union and their PPI policy for hubby, I have just written to them asking for confirmation that they will not pay our claim, then its off to the ombudsman with a complaint, I too am still paying for a useless policy.
