Paypal payments in US dollars

I had a Paypal payment in dollars a couple of weeks ago that's showing as dollars in activity and was automatically accepted. Before Paypal changed the layout I always had to accept and say whether to keep it in dollars or convert to pounds.

In the Paypal balance section under currencies it shows zero under GBP and the payment amount under USD, but my Paypal balance is in GBP and isn't zero so it's like it has converted it.

However, I have bought things recently on ebay and it has taken it from my card, not my Paypal balance.

Does it automatically convert now or stay as dollars?

If it is still dollars how do I convert it to pounds?

Thanks.

I get US Dollar money incoming once a month, I just had a look into this and worked it out.
When youre in My Account, click on the title 'PayPal Balance', then on the menu that comes up click 'Manage currencies'.
What I then did was Selected US Dollar as a new currency and clicked 'Add Currency', left British pound as primary, then to the right side is the Currency Exchange, and select the from to US Dollar, enter the amount of your US Dollar balance you wish to convert, and select British Pound as the To, click calculate, then if happy with the conversion, click continue.
This is how you convert your US balance into your GBP one. I don't know if there's any way to do this automatically, yet, you probably have to agree each time.

Thanks :) I did see that, but wasn't sure if that was the right thing to convert it if it needed converting as it says about sending money to other people, calculating how much it would be and about costs to transfer.

They should make it a bit clearer. "Use this currency converter to work out the following" doesn't really suggest you can convert the balance in your account.

I'm expecting another payment in dollars soon. Would it make sense to wait and convert it all or doesn't it matter?

Before I converted, it shows in my balance and two seperate currencies, and I THINK it worked like two seperate balances too? Because any payments coming out of my paypal does not seem to have taken from the USD amount at all. I suppose because the request is for GBP, but if someone e.g. a US seller requested a dollar amount from you then it might take from that balance.

It seems that you/we have to use the converter to make it into a total balance this is usable for us.

Yeah. Seems daft, I prefer it how it was before. So much easier clicking an option to say you want to convert it and accepting the payment than finding that page, typing in the amount, calculating it and then it converting it.

Could be temporary with the new PayPal interface?
