Sky+HD Picture issue

Hello all
Don't know if this has affected anyone else but the other morning I woke up to find that Sky have done some kind of new software upgrade to my Sky+HD box saying that there are new features new planners etc etc which is fine no problem
But here's the thing
My Sky box is connected to my TV in my living room and I have one of those tv link magic eye things in my kitchen so of course what is on in the living room I can watch in my kitchen.
There has never been a problem when I switch off the TV in the living room I can still watch in the Kitchen
But now since the software update as soon as I turn off the TV in the living room the picture freezes in the kitchen!!
It seems like some kind of HDMI issue because if I go back in the living room and turn the TV back on, the kitchen TV resumes playing however if I turn off the Living room TV again the kitchen TV freezes but if I then take out the HDMI lead from the Living room TV (Still Switched off) the picture starts up again in the kitchen!!
So really my question is: Whats Happened!! and can anyone help please?
By the way I have tried to call Sky every evening on my return from work but have had to sit on hold for so long I have given up

  • When you turn the TV in the lounge back on does the Sky continue where it left off (ie its paused the TV whilst its off) or is it live TV?

Does the power light show the Skybox is going into standby when you turn off the TV?
  • Hi InsideInsurance I tried an experiment, I turned up the volume in the kitchen so I could hear what happens (as I can't see it from the living room) and I tuned off the living room TV and I could hear that the programme carried playing on for about 2 seconds and then froze
I didn't notice about the standby thing but funny you mention that but every morning since it happened the first channel to appear is 999 welcome channel!!

Try going into settings -> picture on your Sky box and set HDMI Control to OFF...
  • Hi Johno100 I did try playing with that on and off but didn't do anything

It's definitely the new HDMI control. You need to switch it to "off" in the settings and you have to save the setting prior to leaving the setting screen (press the green button to do so)
For most, it's a very useful feature that circumvents the need for multiple remote controls.

In your case, it's interfering with the independent function of your "Magic Eye" and needs to be disabled.
  • Thanks Moneyineptitude I will try again tonight

I had odd problems with HDMI control too, in the end I switched it off, it was causing my TV to behave oddly and seeing as Sky only implemented it for turning off the TV I didn't see the point of keeping it on.

If like the Playstation when enabled it let me use my TV remote to control the Sky box I would have seen the point of it but they seem to have added it for the sake of it really.

    It's the opposite.

The one touch function allows the HDMI control to switch the TV ON with the Sky+HD. It does not operate the TV off function.
