Thanks for your replies. We are in Hampshire.
Assuming a quality unit, that sounds about right to me providing it includes all testing and certification at the end.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -
yes but in the short term I'd imaging it will jsut be easier to fit metal until the others have been trialled and approved to whatever BS no...
And in a domestic situation fitting it in another cabinet is likey to be impractical
Undoubtedly some wholesalers/ manufactures will push whichever CU there is greater profit in and use the guise that it needed because of new regulations but that would be BS and not the British standard but bull variety . “ It’s the only one we sell/ manufacture that conforms to Regulation 421.1.200” when reality is “ It’s the only one we sell/ manufacture that does other makers wholesalers sell plastic ones that do but we don’t as the profits are smaller “?
Exploiting the buyers lack of knowledge so to that extent you may well be correct they may all sell metal0 -

Its another misinterpretation of the new regs, no where does it state metal clad is going to be the only type allowed. All consumers unit which carry the BS number already comply with the regulation of being non combustible, such things as dry lining boxes dont seem to though.
I have no doubt though that suppliers will be pushing metal clad "to comply" bs bit like standardising dual RCD boardEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
We've been quoted £400 inc vat to replace our consumer unit to conform with current regs. This will include the necessary certificates.
Is this a fair quote?
mine cost £500, so yes. The certs should be kept safely (with insurance docs etc. ) in a fire proof box as they are part of the houseDo you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0 -
I had mine done plus fixing the loft and conservatory lights done for £474 so seems reasonable to me.0

We just had a quote at the same price for the same job in our house.0
