Friend owes me £150, how do I get it back?

Once the defendant has filed a defence, the case will be allocated to the defendant's home court.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

Call me old fashioned but I have heard many stories of people posting on Facebook which has horrible consequences to themselves and others.
I loathe Facebook when people post, what I consider to be, confidential information. It can backfire terribly. Please think very carefully before you do this.0 -
@Addiscomber and @zzzLazyDaisy: Thanks for clearing that up0

@pmlindyloo: I get your point. However tempting it would be to shame her on her Facebook profile so all of her friends and family can see, it probably won't achieve much. I'll start with a private message to her explaining my intentions and hope she responds well to that0

If you do post something publicly on FB, make sure you make it clear you've been asking for it loads of times, and that it's a debt from a while ago. Loads of people won't know you or her and I think you should make it very clear that it's not you being really !!!!!y about a new debt which you've never asked for before. If you're doing it publicly, make sure the facts are there. I'd say something like
"Just (another) reminder that you still owe me £150 back from [MONTH/YEAR]. Really needing the money myself now so can you transfer it asap or send a cheque please. Know I've sent several reminders in the past, but it's getting urgent now. Thanks."

Its possible that her facebook may be set so that she has to approve any posts onto her wall and how she is tagged in them - I have mine set that way for other reasons..
So be carefull you don't blow your grand plan 'too soon' and end up with no satisfaction what so ever from it.0 -

I have to admit I'd just chalk it up to experience and forget about it. It's been a couple of years and while you could try the legal process, it will cost you more money and be a lot of hassle. A few threats of it though, might be enough to convince her that she should pay it back because it was her idea to pay you that amount. Would you accept less money back (maybe £80 or something?) as a "settlement" instead of going to court?
Maybe there's no point thinking about it now, by why did you sell a friend, who you knew was in financial difficulty, an expensive phone? Lending a friend money is risky at the best of times - I could understand if it was for rent payments, food, or maybe emergency car repairs/public transport to work etc, but a £300 phone? That was a huge risk! That said, she really shouldn't have asked to buy it when she knew she couldn't afford it, and risked your friendship by not paying the money back.
(I am not judging you at all though, I have learned this lesson myself! Years ago I paid for flights to a concert for a group of friends, despite not getting any money from one person because they said they couldn't afford it yet. I never got that £130 back either.)

We have several friends who owe us money, not much but it probably adds up to over £1000.
Lesson learnt never lend to anyone unless they have the means to pay you back in full on pay day
Its the new users who seem to have lent money to friends and family. Those who have used this site for a while have read all the nightmare scenarios and learnt to say NO. Lesson learned never to lend to anyone full stop. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
